New Dreamcast Game

yep got it three days ago.

Not as good as the last notable release, Chaos Field, in my oppinion, and definately not as good as the likes of Ikaruga, Mars Matrix, or any of the really good DC shooters.

It's fun and the transforming thing is cool but too slow and I haven't really found any particular points where one form would be preferable to the others...

yea sometimes the Game Slows down alot (Well it does for me ) when lots of things are happening

no these are the last little dribbles of games being released. I think Trizeal is the very last one now. Haven't played it but im thinking bout it. I played Chaos Field but i didn't really enjoy it as much as Ikaruga although it is still pretty good.

ooooh! gotta check this out!
didn't know that yet another DC game has been released! The dreamcast still gets much love :D
now i gotta save up $$$

Nope a new game comes out every month or two still... many are quirky japanese stuff like dating sims, but every few months or couple times a year a shooter comes out.

This is because the Naomi arcade board (basically a Dreamcast with more RAM) is still pretty popular, and a few companies still using it to make arcade games... and once they're done on Naomi it's a very simple thing to port it to DC, hence low cost to do so.

In the last year or so there have been a few good shooters... Shikigamin No Shiro 2, Borderdown, Chaos Field, Psyvariar 2, and now Trizeal.

I seriously doubt this will be the last DC game... it's actually very comparable to the situation with the Neo Geo... which actually died for a while (company went out of business completely) but now are back and STILL releasing new games for 10+ year old hardware. Because there is still demand for neo geo arcade games... I think we will see a trickle of DC games for some time to come.

Chaos Field has nothing on Trizeal.

Why?

Because this is a return to the old school shoot-em-up. No gimmick of the century that's going to change shoot-em-up, nothing incredibly fancy that tries to scream 'Look at me, i'm the coolest shoot-em-up ever!', it's just pure playability. And i've been hooked on it since I got it. Fantastic stuff, and definately the best of the later releases past Ikaruga in my opinion.

I've been going on the Internet Ranking for quite a bit. The last score I submitted was under the name 'Valvalion', and ranked me at 15. That was a while ago though and i've probably been knocked several places down now. ;)

i thought thye stopped making DC games in 2000?

Nope, thay stopped making the actual DC consoles in 2000, and 3rd party developers are still making some games for it. Not many, mind.

chaos field and shikigami no shiro i didn't care for much. too odd!
however, i loved border down and ikaruga, and if this game is more like them then it should be right up my alley.
long live the NAOMI board :D

It's kind of like those, Junker. The one thing I will say is that the post-2002 shoot-em-up releases on the Dreamcast have been full of unusual gimmicks. While Ikaruga is a fantastic game, it felt more like a puzzler than a shoot-em-up to me.

Trizeal is just old fashioned addictive shooting, building up that score, grabbing powerups to turn yourself into a powerhouse. Thus, I would go as far as to say i'm enjoying this more than I enjoyed Ikaruga, purely for it's addictiveness and simplicity. (Flameproof suit ON.)

Also, in response to Bast's comment above about there being no particular places where one weapon is better than another. I beg to differ. There are PLENTY of points.

For instance: The beginning of the first stage, where the ships come in through the top corner of the screen - Blue laser will catch them immediately, and because of it being just a straight forward firing beam, you'll very, very easily chain the powerups together, the enemies dropping a LOT of the 1000 point drops, as they just fall straight ontop of you.

For the rest of the first stage, use the wide shot. I say this because if you get it powered up to the maximum 5 powerups, it makes the 'Break out!' bit a hell of a lot easier. (You may or may not know this, but if you destroy ALL the big ships during the Break Out! phase, you get a 10,000 point drop, and an additional wave of enemies before the boss. My record, including this additional wave, is around 420,000 at the end of the first level, which I can't get if I power up any of the other weapons.)

i'll have to pick up this game then! i love a good old shooter, although i'm not too great at them :p
