How good is the gp32_console at producing 3D graphics on games?

hum, quake work on the gp so i will say as good as quake, but the fact is that a game made FOR the gp32 can have great 3d capabilities i think, like the port of the yeti 3dengine which is great.

theres a 3d graphics engine here for the gp32_console it makes a 3d donut shape which can be moved around.

I don't really care what the GP32 can do, I prefer focusing on what it's actually going to do. The 32X had a lot of power but nobody used it properly (except maybe the programmers of Darxide lol). So if nobody's going to make a good 3D game (although there are ppl working on it, and we already even have a preliminary port of Quake) it won't matter if the console can make it or not. Anyway I know we should be thankful for what we already have :D

lets say evrything youve seen on the ds so far would also be possible on gp32 if we would have professional commercial developers

Okay

"evrything youve seen on the ds so far would also be possible on gp32 if we would have professional commercial developers!"

Except for the touch screen controls.

But then again, 66mhz + gpu vs ~166mhz - gpu. Mmmmmmm

The GP32 has no 3D capabilities. It's a processor with a screen display.
The GP32 has no 2D capabilities. It's a processor with a screen display.

It's like a nice new Atari ST handheld for the new century!!!
(yay!)

I'm not into 3d on the gp32 myself. The gp32 is the number one retrogaming 2d handheld in the world at present. It can't compete with the psp's or ds's 3d qualities (or even the n-gage's....) but I'm not bothered. I want the best of 2d ever, and that's what it does. Only the psp could now compete with it out of the new generation handhelds (the ds' small screens are a let down), but the psp is miles behind right now. So I wouldn't swap a gp32 for any current handheld. It's almost perfect. :)

But doesn't the DS have two processors - one ARM7 and one ARM9, and I'm sure one of them was 90Mhz. So 90Mhz + 60Mhz = 150Mhz, plus 3D capable GPU and touch screen.

/me dreams of proper multithreading ;)

Actually the DS has a 66mhz ARM9 and a 33mhz ARM7...

And more than likely they are not combinable. One is meant for DS games, the other is for the GBA.

Cheers!

Gah, this requires too much thinking! x_X

But yeah, see, the [insert any handheld game system here] has special hardware for graphics and audio handling. The GP32 has no hardware anything, which means all audio and video processing must be done in software. I've seen 3d done rather quickly, but it's in mr.mirko's clockspeed test, and I don't know if that's 'cheating' or anything. :p

I think that we won't be seeing a super mario 64 recreated for the gp32, but we may in the future see a Super Cube 32: The Untextured Story. ^_^

But yes, it's a nice change to deviate from the obviously 3d-gamer-omfglol-targeted gaming industry and get back to faithful 2D. :)

Oh, Nintendo also says touching is good, blah. :p

I'm not a Nintendo fanboy in the slightest. I hate them in fact. But I was just stating the facts (people are confused). I figure we *could* have DS or better 3D but only if we kidnapped developers from Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft.

Also, the DS has no 3d hardware (I think) it is done in software on one or the other of the two chips through a specialized SDK. The most specialized hardware backing it could possibly have in the graphics and sound department, based on its specs, is the GBA graphics and sound chips, and there is a possibility that the bios emulates these so they may not even have those.

Then again some details are kept secret and this may just be all speculation and wrong.
