Hye. I downlopaded the first two episodes of family guy season 4. so while trying to encode them, it came up with a message saying that there was an error with frame 0001 or something. anyone know how i can sort this or remove the frame to get round this on virtual dub?

when does it come up with the message?

if it doesn't do it till you actually start encoding then start the file after the first frame.
srry haven't used virtualdub in a while but I think its the home button or insert that let you select where to start/end a film I may be wrong though. But it can be done, i've used it numerous times to cut out the credits in a movie to drop off a few megs

I think I know what you are talking about. I had the same error, before I loaded the file on VirtualDub I changed the video and audio error settings to ignore the error and keep encoding. The error occurs not at the very first frame but more like 30 seconds to 1 minute into your episode. Strange thing is it only happens on the family guy episodes. It hasn't done that to me on anything else. That winds up being the only error. If you want you can set your error setting to ignore it, but make sure you change this setting before you select the file or you won't have the option to change it again. I hope this helps you some.

1st question - How do you delete a frame?

2nd question - I believe I read on another forum that you can combine 2 videos into one (don't know what the process is called), is that right or am I just crazy? If it is possible does anybody know how to do it, I'd be very grateful.

Thanx in advance

To question one: In Virtual Dub, Load up your video and go to the first frame you want to process/delete by using the transport buttons at the bottom of the window. Once at the first frame, Click the second button from the right ("Mark in" button), Then go to the last (end) frame you want to process/delete and press the first button on the right ("Mark out" button). The area/frames you have marked/selected will be highlighted in blue in the trackbar above the transport buttons. To delete the selected frames, Just press the Del key on your keyboard.

If that doesn't work, the problem could be in the codec. The codec the video uses you may not have the encoder for.

I had this problem, virtualdub was using XviD to decode the file and it wasn't working, so when you open the file, tick the extended options box and force it to use DivX as the codec handler, hope that helps.
