The new high power rechargable batteries worked a first, but then it went back to normal... it reset at 133Mhz this morning (or 132, whatever LittleJohn defaults to).

No flickering of the backlight as you'd usually get with dying batteries. A straight reset. The thing is I could have been running it at 170Mhz and it would do the same thing... Work for 10 secs and then hard-reset.

It was once a happy 184Mhz and it still can do that when it wants to every now and again, it just doesn't seem to want to right now and I haven't got the skills to open it up and operate.

I may have to buy a BLU+, but it's seems silly because it must be a minor problem with my current BLU.

I guess in a way I'm asking, can anyone fix it for me? I just wasn't forward enough to ask.

Have you tried a set of normal batteries?

If they're OK, have you checked the rechargable batteries are OK? Fully charged? Bad batteries? I've bought some high power rechargeables recently and one was a duff. The others are working great though in my GP32.

Yeah, I did do. A few brands too, including expensive Duracels. It does work sometimes, that's the thing. I hope I don't get slated here for GP abuse, but I did give it a shake the other day.. and it started working. Fixed! I thought.. but no, it's being stubborn again. It was a modded one that I bought on Ebay, maybe the resistor is not connected at times?

If your batteries or the battery connectors are a bit rusty, or oxiginated then the voltage supplied to the GP32 will be lower. Think of a torch you've had in the past that worked better when you shook it. There is probably no loose component, just try rubbing the spring/connectors gently in your GP32 with fine sandpaper and do the same to the batteries. See if that help.

You shouldn't have to rub too hard at all, as all you want to do is remove the very thin film of "resistance" that has built up on the batteries or connectors.

I'll try that, thanks! I'm was terrible for leaving batteries in it long after they'd died, so it may be that. I really want to get this GP working as I have a new PSP and splashing out on yet another GP32 would seem a bit expensive, especially since the PSP's got the extra buttons for SNES emulation. Having said that, the games do still look better on the GP and sharp BLU+ screen would be quite nice...
 
Okay, get an emery board (Ask your girlfriend if you aint got one) and use the lighter side to rub both the battery and GP32 connectors, This will make sure you're getting a good contact.

If you are not getting a good contact, then a resistance is built up and that actually uses more power from your battery but with less power consumption on your GP32.

I've now discovered a new oddity... it doesn't play for the first few minutes even at the lowest clockspeeds, but if you keep trying it eventually starts working. I had it running at 184Mhz consistantly last night, however this morning it spat at me when I tried even 133Mhz. I attempted to clean up the points with some sandpaper from a box of matches.. I'll have to try an emery board, which is a new word for me and that for me is enough to give it a good go!
 
By the way, Rechargables don't really lficker till they run out, and Yoyo's programs all have a weird bug or something which stops them from having to low battery flicker warning.
