Power Supply And Sierra Games Question

Hey all, I'm back with two wildy different questions.

First: I've been seeing some differences in opinion over the type of adaptor I'd need for the GP32. 2V, 3V, positive, negative, etc. Can anyone here tell me exactly what kind of adaptor I'll need? Please, no wire cutting or multi-plug adaptors- just a dedicated, store-buyable one that works. I don't wanna kill my new baby!

Secondly, the Abandoned Games Room website has Lucasarts and Sierra company brand games for download. If Lucasarts works with the Scumm engine, what does Sierra work with- Dosbox? If so, does the GP32 support these games? Anyone with experience, please let me know.

Thanks!

To answer your second question: only the old sierra game work on gp32.

Get Sarien from the file archive, I think the readme has a list of supported games (like Larry 1-3, Space Quest, etc. I believe)

For sierra games there is both freesci and sarien, both have chatboard support but if you don't have a chatboard I suggest using tuskenraider's version of sarien as it has sound and a dictionary for faster sentence input.

to answer youre first question:
look at the symbols next to the adaptor input hole LOL.

Uhh, no. I don't have the system yet. I won't for probably another week, and I'd like to be prepared by getting the correct adaptor. And again, I've read that the machine says both 2V and 3V so I want to be sure!

For the Sierra stuff, thanks. I didn't know that the GP32 supported any of those games and had never heard of those programs, so I'll look into that.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Just buy some 2500 NIMH batteries they last ages anyway.

More people have trashed their GP32s with PSUs that have had bad flashes and thats saying something.

2500? Specifically? Unless someone strongly contradicts that or something, I'll keep that in mind. That helps because when I was looking this up too, there were tons of battery choices and performances so i didn't know what the hell to do. I swear to god, when I was a kid you just bought batteries and you just plugged in a cord that fit the stupid slot. Things have gotten so complicated.

Well anyway thanks again, I can definitely use this ino.

Basically just buy the highest rated NIMH batteries you can get the make doesn't matter as long as it's a respected brand. 2500 is the mah rating and is the Highest that AA batteries are at the moment AFAIK. Anything over 2000 will be ok but 2500 might give you as much as another hour of game time.

The problem with the GP32 is it's a delicate piece of kit compared to the average kids toy and also has a reversed polarity compared to most items. That and the fact you really need to use a high quality adapter if you want to be sure you dont fry the GP is what causes the problems.

Ah, I see. That's why I was getting some of the confused responses elsewhere. Thanks, I think I will just stick to the rechargeable batteries then. Knowing that 2000 or above is what I need is very useful.

And don't skimp, get a good battery charger, they can make a world of difference. It's good to have one that can "top them off" at the end of the recharge cycle. I get about 4 hours a recharge out of my 1800mh batteries using my charger. I put my dead batteries in a friends recharger (the Energizer one that you get from Walmart w/ batteries for $15), and I only get about 3 hours before recharge with his. Makes a hell of difference.

Cheers!
