Hey,

Well, I mentioned this in the mag, but thought I should post here and see whether anyone is interested in porting this SDL demo effects library to the GP32.

It shouldn't be a huge undertaking and I think it would be invaluable to homebrewers.

The Demo Effects Collection.

Any takers? ;)

Cheers,

D.C.C.

All of them except the 3D OpenGL effects should work. The ones in C++ will be a little difficult to port. But I don't think anyone at all will use this thing, and we already have Acidwarp.

Well, there's 34 individual effects in the library, even more when combining them.

I really think that people would make use of it, as it would allow people to create nice effects for their games and the GUI for their games.

Also, it would give some homebrewers a go at making demos as well.

You might not use it.

They do look cool, but half of them won't work. If someone (me?) got them to work and I were making a game, I'd use them...

Well you could use those for scene demos. I remember those from the Amiga and they were cool. There used to be groups like Red Sector and Scoopex etc that used to make megademos with tons of effects and techno music blasting. The whole thing started as intros for cracked games (not that I would know anything about those  ) and took on a life of their own.

I hope the GP2X gets some cool scene demos.

Yeah well, I don't think true demo scene coders would use it ;)

My point is that homebrewers could use it to create their own scene demos, I mean there's no reason why we can't have homebrewed scene demos in the same way as there are fenix games etc.

There have been actual scene demos created by actual sceners for the GP32 that hit the hardware with ARM code and get some nice effects, most of those coders seem to have moved on to other platforms now.

This is covered in the feature article of GP2Brew btw ;)

Yeah I have those. They were cool, too bad there weren't more.
