The square banner on the left is really handy as a labour saving device... it saves you having to move your eyes to look at the banner on the right.

no serioulsly, I guess later on the 3 banners will be used to advertise gp2x games or accessories or something.

A whole site devoted to GP2X web banners......http://www.gp2xwebadvertismentbannersforyoutoenjoyanddistributeaboutthegp2xportablelinuxmediadevice.com

I didn't notice what you mean - as I never check the frontpage... but now that I've checked it, yep looks like too much for me.
Most annoying is that the left and right banner is exactly the same...

Two banners should be enough, I guess. :)

have you people never heard of adblock?

Yes, but I can't see how this supports hando and the site ;)
I don't see how having three flashing messages on my screen for something I have already bought elsewhere, and from Liksang, a shop I don't use, supports Hando and the site.

I know what the liksang ads say. Maybe they are useful for first time visitors, but they are over the top for regulars and adblock is your friend.

The ad`s on gp32x.de (Here) and GP32x.de (Evildragons click for dev`s) are there for support (which you probably already know), If you block them, Even if you know what they are or say, You can not see them, Then you can not click them to support these sites. That is what Evildragon is trying to say.

How many of you contributed with anything what could help running this service ? Halloo! Anybody here??? yeah it's easy to complain. it cost nothing.

Of course there is one perfect sollution. i'll shut down the site. it should make you all happy - no banners at all. At least my wallet would say thank you as I wont have to pay monthly for bandwith, server and devote my and other time to run the site. ok, maybe not time. I do it for free as it my hobby. Me and others devote our own time because it's our passion. But hosting companies don't understand that. They want money and they dont care about 'scene"/opensource/etc/". Front page is mostly for newcomers as most of users sit on forums where is only one f*** banner. no f*** popups, no hundreds of crappy offers - just one simple banner.
So if you don't like them on gp32x.de don't come here. Create your own site, get about 40.000 hits a day, use over 140 gigabytes of bandwith monthly and keep it ad free. If you do that - show me how. If not - gimme a break, go away and complain somewhere else, for example here: http://gp2x.us/ You should be happy - no ads at all.

With the liksang banners you earn a commission on each sale so if you click on the banners or not it doesnt matter. Banners like the googleads are per clickthru so it does matter.

On my site I only ever have two banners on any page, either one at the top and one at the bottom of the page, or one at the top and one smaller banner on the side of the page. I'm not a big fan of banners but sites do need them to pay the server costs etc. I think 3 banners on a page is fine, the problem with the GP32X main page is that all three are bright yellow and animated which catches the eye 3 times :) Maybe some other banners or non-animated ones will work better.

I would also like to say to people please dont use adblocking software on sites like GP32X and Emuholic. Two or three banners and no popups is in my opinion fair and sites like us rely on this money to keep the sites going.

exactly. Thats why adblocking them after you've seen it once and decided not to buy from them is the best option.

btw Hando- why not have an option to donate money to the sites running? I would much rather contribute that way than by clicking on some ad.

Look down the righthand side of the main GP32x page towards the bottom, There is a paypal donation icon, You could always click that. :)

i was talking about general ad blocking software that by default removes all 468x60 images or other common banner sizes. i dont know if hando rotates his banners (he isnt at the moment) but on my site i have different banners depening on what area you are in (GBA, GP32, Zodiac etc) so the adblocking software will automatically delete any images with banner dimensions.

I can understand why people by default block all banner type images as there are some sites that have many banners but it does hurt the sites that keep the banners at a minimum so not to annoy people. I personally only block popups everywhere and sites that have an excessive number of banners or if the banners are too obtrusive. I see your point of blocking adverts after you see them once or twice, but that may mean you miss out on new banners, I for example reuse filenames for some banners when replacing them with new ones.
