Is there a general list of all of the PC Engine games that have been ported? (Or works in progress)..

I find a lot of shoddy stuff / developer pages... but a lot of them seem to be working on the same stuff.

PC Engine games aren't "ported", per se. Squidge is working on an emulator for them, which is a completely different kind of beast. Ideally, it will play them all but we'll see when it comes out I guess. :)

Sorry about the confusion... After first glance, PC Engine sounded like "Games that were for PC"... I now know that not to be true.

Shoddy = websites made by a programer. Which are known to lack style to a degree :). "I'm a web developer, so I can say that".

:) Its lovely to see a post like this. Your in for some big surprises.

Porting is basicaly getting the program(the .exe or .com file) that currently works on your computer to work on a different type of computer say an apple or a linux computer or even an x-box. In this instance we mainly talk about games being ported, these are often programs where the original developers(people who wrote the program) have allowed people to have the program source, rather than just a program that only one machine can understand, it can be changed so another machine can understand it. Programs where you can look at the source can be changed to run on the GP2X. Games like DOOM,Duke Nukem,Quake,Shadow Warrior,Marathon etc etc have there source available.

Not just games have there source available Video players, Text editors, DTP packages, have there source available, but most importantly for the GP2X some emulators are available to port.

An emulator is a program that does something very special, It gets one computer to petend to be another, so my GP2X can be a BBC,Neo-geo,Nes,Genesis,C64 or even a PC-engine. So while the program is running on the GP2X it is another machine. To petend to be another machine it has to be at least 12X as fast, most of the discussion that goes on here is whether it is fast enough to petend to be one machine or another. So you don't say what has been ported because the programs have not been changed they are still the same ones that worked with the original computer. So often In here we talk about compatability, thats how good a machine can petend(emulate) to be a another. The better it is at petending the more games work.

Both emulating and porting are different ways of getting, games that work on a different computer to work on the GP2X. Porting where the source is available, emulating where it is not.

Hope this has helped rather than confused, judging by your post you are in for a serious treat, and if anyone gives you any trouble, give it back ;)

Define style.

I'm a programmer and web designer. I don't profess my unlimited genius in either arena, but I am certainly competent in both.

Your baiting any you know it.

Some of the new GP2X websites are a lot snazzier than the old GP32 ones gbax being the best example. The new site is lovely. That old site made me want to cry. I don't know whether its advances in technology that have made this possible(easier), or people are becoming more competent. Its also nice to see excellent tools like blogs, wiki being used even before the gp2X is out. I think these sites bode well for the GP2X. Its not going to be the obscure handheld from korea the GP32 is.

I'd rather a programmer spend the time on his project than making a pretty web site

No, that's what you're doing. Please don't reply to my posts with baseless comments like that. I thank you in advance.

Not a baseless comment, you asked someone to define style, a question you should know is something thats covered in 100,000's(Millions??) of books, thousands of magazines weekly, shelf upon shelf of books on web site style alone that try and do just that, and mainly(always???) fail.

You know exactly what he means, duplicated work/effort and varied quality(don't ask me to define that I can't and won't) of information on websites. Thats the interweb for you.

I think the developer blogs, should look like developer blogs because thats what they are ;)

Yeah seriously, All the guy is saying is that he's seen some less than exciting websites by developers, Not every develoeper can create awesome games and a pretty website at the same time.

There seems to be alot of flame wars these days. I wonder why, didn't use to be this bad.

The closer it gets to release time the more people will argue over information and minutia.

 you are kidding me right. Your the worst candidates for any kind of firestarting. I'm no angel too btw. I've actually only seen a couple of threads go bad. Most of the arguing is heated discussion, albeit with bias. Having read most of it, I feel that I understand *stuff* more.

Well I personally believe that my website is one of the shoddiest out there, and there are 2 reasons why - firstly I like to dedicate as much of my very limited spare time to coding gp32/gp2x apps, and secondly I'm a multimedia developer by trade so there's no bloody way I'm going to come home from work and write more websites ;).

To the original poster, you are going to be so pleased if you get the GP2x, cos it will play pc engine very nice.

That is all. I depise flaming in all it's guises. I have renounced the way of the flamer, and chosen a better path. I see only light and helpfulness, where before there was ire. COme and join me on my quest to bring peace and harmony to the t'interweb.

Or f*&k off if you don't want to.
