I am beginning to wonder if the gaming companies are going to continue the practice of porting games or take advantage of the system's capabilities. I'll admit that it is cheap to port games instead of taking the time to explore and make a game exclusive and unique to a particular system. It means putting aside a group of people and funds to a certain project. The DS is a different Handheld Gaming machine than the rest and I believe it can give you a unique arcade feel and experience. The game that has caused my concern is “Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects.” This game is obviously a port or a GBA-DS hybrid thingy. They did not take the time to build the game to fit the DS. (Great games can be made for this system, if only they would take the time.) Don't get me wrong, I enjoy and like the game and I have fun playing it. But it is very buggy, glichy, and seems “rushed to market” before any thought went into it. Who play tested it? A game made for the DS would be a game that could not be ported to any other machine. Is there no creativity in the big gaming companies to use something like the DS? Do they not know what to do with this Handheld's capabilities? I don't believe the porting of a lot games to this system is going to work. Gaming companies are going to have to sit down and consider what to do with the DS and it's neat features. If they are going to port something like “Marvel Nemesis” they could at least take the time to work out all the bugs. I guess as a gamer I am tired of the two headed buggy, glichy, mutant, “lets make a fast dollar” ports. Maybe if I give them a little time they will get the hang of programing for this neat little machine. Hmmm........It has almost been a year now. <_<

I hardly have any ports for my DS and the ones that I do have are pretty well done. That Marvel game was made by EA, who are the kings of "cash-in-quick!" so it's to be expected that their port is shitty. Their versions of Madden on the DS have apparently sucked, too. You should just save your money for one of the many DS-only titles out there. They're mostly titles in existing franchises, but games like Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Meteos, and Kirby: Canvas Curse make me really happy I have this little machine.

Oh, that an EA game--of course there's not creativity or thought put into it!

But there's plenty of awesome titles released and on the way from the big game companies (I mean, outside of Nintendo)--Lost In Blue, Children of Mana, Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil (which is a remake, but it seems like they're making substantial additions) to name just a few.

There's a screenshot for it in here. It's a remake of the original. Rumours say it's going to have wireless co-op. I'm looking forward to it for that reason alone. Everyone I know is big on RE, so I know I'll have people to play it with.

i bought my DS right at launch, which was a huge mistake. I still am disappointed with it, but its beginning to get much better. Not only with ports, but the quality of the games alone. Alot of the games didn't look much better than GBA games, Castlevania, Star Wars Episode III, these games don't look like they should be made for a system capable of N64 graphics. And then it looked like they were making the GBA counterparts look worse just to make the DS look good in comparison, just look at the back of the box for that new Spider Man game. GOD the GBA is uuuuggllyy. All in all, it was a huge disappointment for me, I bought Mario 64, which is an ok game, and bought Nanostray, which again i was extremely disappointed. But with Mario Kart on the way and my love of online gaming, i see my DS being used more than my PSP in the future.

EDIT: also i wanted to add as far as ports go, there are quite a few N64 games i'd love to see on the DS, just to name a few, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Smash Bros, Star Fox

I really like my DS. I am looking forward to games like “Viewtiful Joe.” I heard that Burnout was in the making for the DS. I just hope that they take the time to make it fit the system and not make a cheap port that stinks.
If company makes a port, I don't mind it as long as they make it complete when it hits the store shelf.
I would also like to see the N64 Starfox on the DS. I think the Mario 64 shows that if someone knows the system and takes the time to work with, they can produce some good gaming. :)

Thank You for the link to the list Ravnos! It looks like the DS is getting ready to Rock! I just hope that some of these games play as well as they look. :)

I love my DS, and there are loads of new great-looking games for it. The PSP might be an all-around cooler system, but... The games on DS... :)

I don't have a PSP yet. I, at the moment, feel the need for a GP2X for purchase first. So I am saving for that. It might be late next year before I fully consider a PSP.

Good Choice. Outside of GTA, PSP doesn't have that much going for it right now.

I really regret having picked one up so early on.

Death JR, Medievil , GTA and harry potter look good. Also Mercury is a great puzzler/platformer

You just need to try some of the other games for the DS. Lost in blue is the best game ive played in a long while and tiger woods is really fun with the stylus too. Not to mention the puzzle games like meteos and zoo keeper. I am very happy with the DS these days.

Let's fix up this negative thread by mentioning the non-port games we're playing/are going to play on the DS! For me:

1) Meteos
2) Advance Wars DS
3) Sonic Rush

It's a pity most of the non-ports are first-party though... but what did you expect? Castlevania also makes great use of the touch/dual screens.

Hmm I didnt think the thread had gotten too negative... just a little uninformed at first. The DS seems poised to produce a high level of entertainment, but that's why Nintendo has been first in portable gaming for so long. It's the one thing they can't seem to mess up.

i usually don't mind ports as long as their as good as the original, but i don't think the problem was with ports as was with the selection of games itself, I mean, it's taken how long now to get a decent RPG? Still no fighting game, at least that i'm aware of, 1 shooter in Nanostray, 1 first person shooter, Rogue Agent.

But that is going to be changing here shortly. The DS is really starting to pick up and i'm actually more excited for the future of the DS than the PSP right now. I'm extremely disappointed in the PSP, so much untapped potential.
