I had been watching a video on the bus home from work and it would freeze eventually. Now it's to the point where it won't even start the video. It says Loading and then freezes and the display will change colour and so on. I have what seems to be a fairly slow SD card. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. The device still boots up fine and the interface works and the SD card is still detected and still lists all the files on it. It just won't play video now, which is a shame as that is all I wanted it for until some games begin appearing.

---UPDATE---

It turns out it was the batteries. I thought the batteries they shipped would last for longer than 45m-1h of movie playing time. Oh well. Sorry for the scary sounding post.

Have you not got another SD card you can try? Hope you get it working again :(

Oh well, there are always going to be problems on day1.

Hmm, and GPH didnt provide any documented emergency factory restore option. Some people have been saying that its too easy for files in the NAND are too easy to modify.

It would have been a good idea to provide the firmware on CD to be able to reflash in this instance, although if its not letting you be able to play films, the firmware flash option could just as easily be damaged

I hope you don't have to resort to reflashing using the serial port, it is supposed to take 4.5hrs in total :(

Have GPH added any firmware software or notes on their website yet?

Its all right Craig *pat, pat*

Have you had any problems like this in your batch (not that you test every one)

I don't know if you have seen this post before, apologies if you have.

Prodo translates a number of bugs that are being worked on by GPH and will be rectified in future firmware updates.

Encoded videos over 1Mb/s on slower SD cards have a freezing issue, software fix required.

Craigix, can you take you head out of your hands, at least until you've sent my GP2X anyway :p

well, it sounds like you need new batterys? :)

Vimacs...

Thanks for your quick reply. It actually was the batteries. I didn't think it could be as I hadn't even watched an hour worth of video yet. I turned it on and found that the batteries were empty in the settings menu.

Either they sent me really bad batteries or the battery life for movies is really poor.

I will post more when I drain the pair of Energizers that I have just started using.

I should try my rechargeables too I guess.

Well, looks like we're stuck with alpha/beta firmware, which is pretty unprofessional on their side. Those firmware issues will be fixed, eventually. However, what's scaring me really is those hardware issues such as controlstick not detecting any left direction input, headphone jack not working if you plug it in all the way, flimsy battery door, scratched LCD screen and such. Those requires replacement, and since I live in the States, and ordered from Craig, returning could be a big hassle... What's your return policy Craig in case of hardware fault? :(

I would hope Craig offers a 12 month warranty on these with a replacement or at the very least a repair on the unit.

Fingers crossed, as i have 2 on order with him.

What hardware issues? ;) Haven't yet heard of any from the shipped units..

When I got my GP32, late in it's life, there were still occasionally cries of help on the help section, screen fading, freezing... And then some old scener would ask, calmly, have you tried to switch batteries? :)

Hah, I like your edit, codeninja. I guess you fel the first version wasn't gloomy enough? I might worry about problems if I encounter them. If you don't want to be an early adopter, you can probably use your statutory rights to get a refund.

deja-vu unless you are trying to cause panic, rather than speading a general concern, surely the one post is enough.

see reply to your thread. It looks like your concerns are unwarrented.

Actually, it would be nice if the firmware becomes open source. :) That way, all the problems will be fixed by us, users faster and better. :p Main selling point of this device has been being open source anyway.

No, it's very unprofessional that people didn't want to wait which caused exactly this thing. That's exactly the reason why I always wanted to wait...
