OK, time to get my dunce hat on.

At first my PC wouldn't even recognise the GP2X as a drive, so I follwed Craig's advice and formatted the SD card using windows disk manager (FAT32 file format, all other options left as standard). Now I can copy files onto the drive (which is VERY slow because I don't have USB 2 ports) but the GP2X won't recognise them! I've put several progs, movies and pics on and nothing works.

Dammit, I get my nice shiny new GP2X (well, not that shiny actually...it's got more of a matt finish) and now I can't get anything to work on it! Help or advice would be much appreciated.

Okay, I'm not calling you a 'tard or anything; but make sure that the photos are JPGs, the movies are DivX encoded and the programs are actually ones that work.

So far, I got Quake working, games-wise. But that crashed at some point.

Photos work superb for me. As do MP3s, and I've just got video working.
I'm trying to find a suitable encoding setting for video.

Did you check the SD Card manufacturer web site to see if they have a format utility for it?

Also, by any chance did you format the card through a hub or directly through a cable?

All else fails, try formatting to FAT32 on another computer.

Not the greatest advice, but it's a start . . . :(

Yes yes and yes. Well, I'm pretty sure the programs are ones that work, but I haven't had a chance to try yet!

it is unmount utility.

if u copied files from usb cable, run this program in utility menu before power off.

Unfortunately the GP2X won't recognise any files so I can't run any programs from it.

Nothing, the cheap bastards!
:(

I formatted it directly through the cable. Took ages.

Oh well, thanks for the quick replies guys. I'll keep trying...

I have managed to get this to happen on my XP laptop too, working on a solution (apart from the obvious card reader!)

Thanks Craig, hope you solve it soon because it's driving me nuts! I have a GP2X sitting on my desk all ready to go and I can't do anything with it! ARGH!!

im lucky my printer has card reader built in. but not usb2, so sloow its untrue. my XP will recognise it but just says enter drive? when i try to access it.

Not sure if this helps or not, but did you try that usbmon.exe that's on GPH's homepage and they were getting users to use when they has trouble with windows recognising the device.

I am probably way off but it's just a thought.

NeoStuey: I gave it a go but it didn't actually seem to do much. My PC was recognising the GP2X (and even complained that I didn't have a high-speed USB when I plugged it in), the PC just wasn't able to write files to it because it wasn't formatted as a drive.

Once I formatted the card and copied all the files over, a whole new ugly problem reared its head...the GP2X won't list ANY files no matter what the format. It's as if the SD card isn't even there.

The quickest solution would be a 99p USB-SD adaptor from ebay or the like. I'm messing about trying to get this to work in the meantime.

Hmmm, the fact that you don't have USB 2.0 shouldn't make any difference apart from the obvious slow snail like transfer speeds.

As I understand it the files should still be okay.

On the windows system tray do you have the safely remove hardware icon got the green arrow on it pointing left. Are you clicking on that to unmount the device? Something else to rule out.

Is the card being recognised by the GP2X?

When you reconnect are all the files showing on your PC as still being on the card?
