Battery Time

Interesting. I wonder what the difference is.

Edit: "Photo" is up to 2500mAh. They call the 2600mAh batteries "Digital" for some reason.

The 2600mah is Ansmann's highest rated NiMH battery right now. I think they went with the digital branding to push home the fact they are ideal for the latest SLR digital Cameras. At least that's how my local camera store sold them to me 4 months ago when I bought a new SLR style digital camera.

Eolair you might want to follow this link it is from Ansmann.co.uk and lists resellers in Sweden, I tried following the link but my Swedish is non existent but I am hoping the link might help you.

Thanks NeoStuey. I'm going to check out that swedish reseller tomorrow to see if they carry any photo ansmanns. The site wouldn't tell me so I'll have to phone them.

I also found another swedish site that has ansmann batteries but I'm unsure whether they are photo batteries or not. Gonna have to email them...

To further complicate the matter it seems like ansmann has both normal and photo batteries. Nothing about that on their site though.

BE CAREFUL!

While the Ansmann Digital 2600 have highest capacity, they will suffer the same problem most high-capacity batteries have with the gp2x: They won't last long, as they are NOT able to provide the power needed for the gp2x.

The PHOTO ones are able to provide more power, even though their capacity is NOT as high as the Ansmann Digital 2600!

The Digital 2600 are fine for standard devices which don't drain much power and once and will last a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.
But only if the device doesn't need too much power - and the gp2x does.

EDIT: Ansmann PHOTO have Ansmann PHOTO printed on them :)

But I can't find Ansmann 2600 "Photo" batteries anywhere? And when I look at the official Ansmann site they call the 2600 digital batteries "photo" batteries. I thought digital was the same as photo batteries. Just that choose a new name for them : "Digital" as in Digital Photo.

What's the number for rating the average output of a battery like these PHOTO batteries called? Perhaps we can look for comparable numbers on local batteries, since there is obviously some specific power-output-number difference, and since not all of us can have them shipped.

I think, as Evill Dragon is the only one able to do the test we should all take his advice, I am grateful to him for taking the time to do so.

I currently have 8 photo 2500mah Ansmann in rotation for my GP32 soon to transfer to my GP2X now it's shipped.

All the 2600's that I own are currently being used in my SLR style digital camera (FujiFilm S7000), it's not a professional camera so perhaps is a bit less power hungry and why they last longer in it than my 2500's appear to. And come to think of it I haven't ever tried them in my GP32 either.

Just so that everybody is clear then, it's ANSMANN PHOTO 2500MAH NIMH for all your GP2X needs they have been tried and tested. :D

The DigiSpeed 4 charger will recharge them in 1.7 hours.

You can check this article here that ED posted in another thread:

But the winner there is standard Energizers nimhs so I'm not sure what relevance the article has...

I just don't see a specific number to look for on those pages. All I see are mAh ratings, which obviously don't mean as much in this scenario as the other number of constant average output of mAh. My "Duracell Rechargeable Accu 2300mAh NiMH AA Batteries" say on the side "Standard charge 230mA for 16h". Is this the number I should be looking for to reach about 500mA, so it is able to give all it's juice to the 2x?

I'm confused. To be clear, what is different about the Ansmann Digital vs Ansmann Photo. NiMH is NiMH right?

I'll probably order 8 of the Ansmann Digital batteries with a nice charger unless someone can tell me why I shouldn't. I can't seem to find the photos anywhere close by. Furthermore, on the Ansmann homepage they list the product ID of the digitals as "Mignon AA NiMH 2600 mAh • Photo". Based on what I've seen, I'm inclined to belive that the digital branding is just an updated marketing name for the product.

I would hate to spend money on something that is sub par. So again, if someone has any reason not to go with the digital please let me know before I regret it later.

Warmest Regards,

CoinOp

Got me some HAMA 2500ma NIMH's and charger yesterday from my local photographers ( it was all they had ) and have found the following :

First charge took sub 30 mins

first pair lasted just under two hours playing mp3 in a loop with the screen off

Second pair lasted just over an hour on constant video playback - only crashed when batteries ran out off juice. :)

I'm now charging again and if anyones interested i'll post further findings runing the same test's as above.

I would expect these times to increase as these are new batteries and they tend to get a bit better after 4 or five charges.

Having read this and other threads I find it interesting that GPH didn't allow for fitting more batteries when they designed the GPX2 - surely they must have known the power consumption - or was the 6/10hrs video/audio playback a W.A.G ??

Still, now I've got video working I'm happy and the battery sitaution can only improve ( fingers crossed )

Can someone give me a link to where I can find these "photo" batteries. I searched everywhere and I only find "digital" ones.

Nice, thanks NeoStuey. Now, this sucks. I was just in NYC today with my friends. I guess ill take the train in again sometime soon.
