I Think I May Have Bricked My Gp2x

Well, I was impatient and threw some batteries in and it seemed to work, started up and looked at the menus, so I decided to put my SD card in and see if I could format it in the GP2X. I had it formatted as a MacOSextended and it didn't recognise it so I turned it off and turned it back on. A scary 'upgrading firmware' screen came on, then went to GP2X loading screen, but nothing came up. After a few min I turned it off and on again and now all I get when I turn it on is a bunch of horizontal colored lines. Anyone know what happened? I didn't have anything on my SD card.

Thanx,
Stan

I'm lazy so I'm just going to quote myself:

The batteries that come with the unit suck. In fact all alkaline batteries suck. They run out in less than an hour. Put in a couple of new ones to test if the unit works and then buy rechargable 2500+ mAh NiMH batteries ASAP. Preferably ansmann 2500mAh NiMH PHOTO batteries if you can find them.

Oh, I forgot to specify that I used new non-rechargeable(Energiser) and some high quality recharge ables(fully charged). Didn't use the one's that came with it.

Thanx,
Stan

That's what exactly happened to me this morning, I had MP3's on my SD card only. Have tried several different batteries since, including hi-quality rechargeables and it does nothing. Seems like it will have to be sent back. Where do I send it to GBAX.com or to Gamepark?

I'm not sure, I didn't have anything on the card, it was just formatted incorrectly. Is this something I need to send it back for or is there a button-press combo I can use to get it to downgrade it self or other OS on the card? I charged the batteries quite a while ago so I'm charging them again now and going to try it in a few hours, probably after I get back from work.

Thanx,
Stan

GBAX if that's where you bought it

You can fix bricked units if you have a serial cable but since that isn't available yet your only option is to return it.

It's worrying that it's so easy to brick a unit. Sounds like there's some glitch that can brick units without any user error. Really needs to be looked into.

Ah crap, my SD card isn't compatible with the firmware, so I'm going to get the cheapest card on the list just for updating I guess. I hope the firmware update fixes my brick. Can anyone confirm this? Oh, and you just unzip and copy onto the FAT32 card? No special directories?

BEFORE buying a card, unzip everything to your SD-Card root, insert the card and power on.
Wait a while (even if it doesn't upgrade), about 20 seconds.

Then look at the card: .img files still there?
Then you have most probably bricked the gp2x.

.img deleted? Then U-Boot is working fine and you should most probably be able to reflash with a working card.

FYI, I was trying to flash my GP2X earlier with a SanDisk 1GB card that I already had stuff on, but just dropped the files on the root dir, it didn't work, just deleted the img file. Reformatting the card to FAT32 fixed that problem and it flashed clean. I never had a brick though, was still booting most of the time (occasionally it hangs on the green loading screen)

Ok, when you say / directory, you mean the top folder, my SD card is completely blank, so just copying it to the SD card puts it in root. Yeah, it didn't take anything off the card, so I can safely assume it's bricked? What is my best option here, just ship it back to gp32z.com? I'm guessing it can be fixed with the EXT port but no cord for it yet? Can the guys at gp32x and gbax fix it there by just re-flashing it?

Thanx,
Stan

I have the EXACT same problem, and it won't delete the .img files like Evil Dragon sugessted.

So am I stuck with sending it back to gp32z?
