Have those people having difficulty getting their machines to recognise the GP2X, tried mashing buttons in the USB option in the Settings menu?

My laptop only noticed mine the very first time I plugged it in, and from that point on nada/nothing/zilch (tried a few different cables/sockets etc). Simply pressing disconnect (B?) in the USB screen has seemed to sort it out permanently and now it's picked up by W2K every time.

/me hopes he's not being thick and wasting you good folks' time

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the unit was on and plugged in via USB at the time of doing the disconnect thing from the menu

it doesn't work for me. xp (+sp2) here. must be the os.
Ive never had any probs with my USB port on the GP2X, works fine in OS X, WinXP and Windows2003. Ive never used the cable supplied in the box, so if you have a spare cable, try it :)

I don't have any problems with the LCD or control stick either

Did some button mashing myself because I thought that would help. I also thought there was some processing going on in the background because there was a noticable delay when the usb cable was in and I pressed the start button to take me back to the main menu and sometimes pressing x wouldn't do anything.

The cable isn't the problem because I plugged my digital cam in and it was recognized in less than a second. So again I can only point to the firmware

This just reminds me of what happened to me a few weekends ago, i've got a usb stick (1Gb, iomega), on which i put some anime i wanted to give to a friend (didn't all fit on a dvd), when i inserted it in his pc, nothing happened (i've been using it on both usb2 and 1.1 ports so that couldn't have been the issue), neither did it work on his other pc.
the only possible explanation i can think of is that he runs windows XP SP2, while i still work with SP1....

have there been some serious (security?) changes concerning usb mass storage devices or so?
and when i say nothing happened i really mean nothing at all, the usb stick has a led that shows activity, it didn't blink once....

so it might very well be a windows issue you know!

Have you tried putting the gp2x into usb mode and then rebooting windows xp sp2 and see if it is recognised then. I did post in another topic quite a while back about the issues with xp sp2 and a usb stick on a machine we had installed at work. Basically if you machine is running, plug in usb stick and machine sees it but will not appear in my computer like it should. You go to device manager and it's listed there and you can even assign a drive letter but it will not work until you reboot. It may be worth a try ;)

:D OMG WTF!

I did try, but didn't twig to the fact that the "X" referred to the button.

Code:
Nov 29 19:34:13 gondolin kernel: usb 1-2.3: new full speed USB device using address 5
Nov 29 19:34:13 gondolin kernel: scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
Nov 29 19:34:13 gondolin kernel: Vendor: Linux Model: File-Stor Gadget Rev: 0229
Nov 29 19:34:13 gondolin kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02

Now my only problem is that I have about 5 minutes to play

THANK YOU! Thank you! thank you! ...

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You have GOT to be kidding me!!

It just worked in Linux too! The SD card in my GP2X has just appeared after pressing B on the USB screen.

THANKS, mate!

The list of things that don't work on my GP2X is pretty much empty now..
:D
