(Firstly this is just a curiosity release, a port of MAME's 8080bw.c hardware driver.
Its a version I made 2 weeks ago, i am working on a more complete version of an early mame) - from Craig(Author)[/B
]

Anyone know any further details on this MAME or any other? I am really itching to play more of those arcade games.

Also - anyone know the hardware limitations that will cripple/limit a fully working version of MAME in the future. What is possible under MAME emulation on the GP32?

What he's got working so far is great and I am much appreciative - But I'd really love to play Rally-X, Centipede, Mappy, Battlezone, Burgertime, Frogger, Joust, Dig Dug, etc... and others...

i was just about to ask this very question. to make a guess, i'd say thating like 'the simpsons' arcade game would be about the limit of the gp32's arcade emulating power. but maybe somebody knows better?

I think system 16 is the max the gp32 could handle (it is basiclly a genesis)

But ryleh (can never spell it right sorry) has ported mame onto the gp32 but he's waiting for a new 68000 core (thats thats it) to replace it in his genesis emu and that part of mame.

But Craigx will prob be the first cause ryleh has sooooo many emus going at once it be hard to see when 1 gets finished or a alpha released.

But dont forget if he released an alpha people would complain about speed etc and ask him to make it better when he's working on the other emu's so i dont think its a good idea for him to release beta's

I think you'd be pushing it with even that. Remember the CaSTaway makes the GP struggle with an Atari ST.

The Dreamcast enjoys the work of an author (Reaper, but his site's down atm.) who takes specific Mame drivers out of the 20meg behemoth that is Mame. He takes the driver, the required cpu cores and bolts them all back together with a bit (possibly a lot) of DC specific coding to increase framerate. Maybe this approach would work, but I don't have the expertise to do this, although I will investigate. I'd love to play Raiden on my GP32, but the V70 chip may be too much.

No no im not saying all of mame will be ported but pyleh says he will have most 68k games ported so thats most early 16bit games. Still we need to see how fast it will be tho.

But thats what ryleh is doing ripping the drivers for the specific systems then having the menu just load that driver up with the rom.

But i do remember some1 was woking on a system 16 emulator a while ago got no idea whats happening now tho.

a pengo clone just got pre-released for GP32?? see gp32emu.com for a download.

that list of mame games is formidable! if all those games listed above could run full speed and nice resolution on GP32, I would say the hell with a SNES emulator..!

patience, as usual...
