Sorry my search function wouldn't work for some reason so this may have been covered before.

Does the speed of the SD card make a difference with GP2X? If so, what maximum speed does it support?

For most thing, it doesn't matter. I read that for the PSX emu, faster cards will load the games faster, since it streams the data.

it doesnt matter.

Speed will not matter because all of your loadtimes will not speed up if you buy that 150X SD card vs the 80X card by a noticable amount. Why? Because you are ALWAYS dealing with things less than 32 MB (for now)

"What about the PSX emulator?" PSX has 8 MB ram. Therefore, 1.1 vs 1.2 second load time? OK, whatever works for you

.... just go for reliability.

Great, thanks guys.

I just ordered a Sandisk 1Gb and was thinking to change the order to Sandisk UltraII 1Gb but if it doesn't make much of a difference I'll probably leave it as is.

I don't think it really matters, the speed of the card is generally more than the speed that the GP2X reads anyway.

Write speed may matter.
Weird Pausing Problem

Though, I suspect that the firmware will be fixed at some point and this problem will go away.

fast card is only good for loading movies into it via a card reader.

The question I have is that my current card via crd reader take a long time to copy each file onto the card. (common problem?)

So if I want to install Ur-Quan masters it'll take more then 2 hours to unzip to my card.

Is this a card reader problem? Can I get a card that will do files faster?

thanks

correct me if I'm wrong, but since when did we ever care about the card *write* speed. I didn't think it was really tied to reading anyway, and is mainly for camera users--where it makes a *BIG* difference.

That's why I had a link in my previous post. It was there to illustrate a case where you might care about write speed. It has yet to be confirmed that speed is the issue, though.

I can't confirm it because I don't have the time to test it at the moment, but what I can say is I have seen the pauses myself but only in the last couple of weeks. And it's only in the last couple of weeks that I've started to use my slower 512mb card instead of my fast 1gb. Could be a coincidence, or it could be that I didn't pay much attention before and just didn't notice the pauses on my 1gb, but it certainly seems strange that I've only just started noticing it now.
