Uae4all Amiga Emulator Port To Gp2x

I feel like such a dummy. Throttle set to 0 solved everything, should've been smart enough to try that :D. Thanks a lot!

It's not exactly obvious!

If you test any games that aren't already on the wiki, please add them.

Just a quick question. How difficult/time consuming will it be to add save state support?

Is this on the cards for the near future?

I love what your doing with this emulator! Really great work! :)

I imagine it would take a while. It's not really high on my current todo list, which reads something like (in vague order):

fix requirement to have data dir at /uae4all/data/
fully implement remapping option file for buttons
supply graphical feedback of start button state change
seriously attempt to integrate cyclone core
get sound working
implement screen shifting
look at supporting battery indicator flashing for disk access
save states

If anyone can think of anything else to add to the todo list, let me know. I need to budget my free time a lot at the moment.

I had a quick try of this, and it looks like I forgot at least a couple of things when doing the virtual keyboard handling.  The directions still take effect at the moment when you're entering keys, so you end up inching into the fighter in the forest - oops.

It also makes it a bit of a challenge to enter your name in Bar Games (although it's possible if you're cunning).

Sorry, I'll fix this ASAP (expect a minor rev later on today).
Minor rev has now occurred (0.3.1):

http://www.vividvillage.com/

I had a game of Bar Games and it was much easier to enter my name. I haven't tried entering the cheat in SOTB2, but hopefully that'll be a goer as well now.

The keyboard works very well, although I was not able to activate the cheat mode in Best 2 as you always drop out of the ask mode if you type not fast enough, and I was just not able to type in "ten pints" fast enough. But it I am sure it would be possible.

In the same file where you map the buttons, you could also assign adf-files to virtual disk drives (df1: etc) in order to minimize the disk swapping.

You could even have the config file contain settings like throttle, frameskip etc. so you wouldn't have to keep fiddling with them when you find good settings for a game. Several levels of mouse acceleration would be cool to have too.

Two questions.

Eye of the Beholder?
Liberation - Captive 2?

(I'm surprised no one fired up Dungeon Master.. guess everyone got enough of that in the ST ;)

Eye of the Beholder - NO (yet ;))
I briefly tried eotb2, which failed on the second disk. I don't know why at the moment (to be honest, I don't really do RPGs anyway). How does the first one fail? The DC version of uae4all reportedly runs EOTB at throttle 20... does the gp2x port fail at 20 for you, WhiteFalcon?

I mentioned before about the key remapping feature, and trying to fix the path hack I put in so you can install uae4all where you like...

I've fixed the path hack, but I'm thinking some more about the remapping file format, with some of the ideas people have come up with.

This release (0.3.2) has a hard-wired remapping in place, so now the Start button goes from normal joystick -> mouse emu -> remapped buttons. The mapping is for Pinball Dreams if anyone fancies giving it a go. A bit slow at 200MHz, but fs2 is playable, I'd
say. Keys are: L and R (left flipper, right flipper), A (F1), B (nudge / shoot ball).

Get it at http://www.vividvillage.com/ if you fancy a play.

I'll get on with the proper remapping functionality now.

Critical .. your avatar is freaking me out ...

Is that from Jesus On E's Amiga demo? I can't place it ...

Updated the Wiki Entry Tool with the new verison build number.

I'd guess at a statue of one of the antic philosophers, but I agree, I try to avoid looking at the avatar whenever reading a post by critical ;)

EDIT: Nah, I take the philosopher back, they all looked very placid and benine, this one is too distressed.

Bad time on the loo philosophising (is that a word?) ? :)

Critical, (to bring this post back on topic!) you know how hard it is to find and ADF copy of Pinball Dreams?
No work getting done today!

Two things:

All: avatar - it's a photo of Rodin's "Le Cri" (The Cry, in English). I used to have it on my business cards too, but my girlfriend suggested that it was a bit much.

BenScar: Pinball Dreams - this was actually licenced to back2roots to give away by the copyright owners, according to this post:

http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=65246

So "Pinball Dreams" is "Abandonware". Tell it to the google.

I did.... Tell it to Google that is.

Sadly the Back2Roots site is either off line or my internet connections are messed up :(

Can't seem to find it anywhere else. Have to dig out my originals!
(Or the dvd with my ADFs on)

Had a bit of slack time today, but not worth coding in.

I tested a few more games (added to wiki):

Bard's Tale II, The: The Destiny Knight works well, as far as I can see (never played it before)

Chuck Rock: seems almost perfect (except no sound yet, obviously)

Chuck Rock 2: a bit choppier than its predecessor.

Cool Spot: not bad, but I'd like it a lot faster.

What speed do people normally run uae4all at? I've never overclocked my gp2x yet, so all of my testing is at 200MHz. I'm probably going to put an overclocking option into the main menu over the next couple of days.

I wonder how much potential is there in improving the speed... since it's still a portable device and overclocking is a battery-killer ... there's no Pinball Dreams during the holidyays, yet ...

I hope sound-emulation can be handled by CPU#2 ?
