I was just wondering if GPHs has said or done anything about the firmware its been awail since they released a new one and i am beging to lose some little faith in my gp2x :(

gph is makeing great progress with the firmware, 1.3 and 1.4 are allready internal done but not released couse of the missing soure, 1.5 should be released with full source when its ready, knowing gph that could be weeks, month's, or years.

Say thanks to the gpl zealots, without them we might be some versions higher by now.

They cant release another firmware without source without fear of a backlash coming from breaking the GPL again.

Alternate OS: The GP32 had a dozen different firmwares made by the community which was MUCH better then the offical one.

wouldnt they get more blacklash not fixing small bugs why now just make a 1.2.3 with the new firmware and just say they fixed some bugs.

I wonder if any one is working on a new os... for the gp2 that would be pretty neat!

any new of craig or someone that know some real pls

Pretty much... I beleive DJ Willis is working on Open2x but either needs or wnats the source code to be released first.

You can't say that GPH isn't more community-conscience than what was going on with the GP32. They're having problems and I'm sure they're working on it. Give them some time.

Dude!

Without the GPL zealots, you wouldn't have a GP2X at all.

You're a good guy.. how could you lower yourself to such silliness?

jeff

The GPL is good. Zealotry of any form is bad, but GPH are so far thieving from thousands of people. Its easy to conform to the GPL, and they're the ones who knowingly ignored it. GPH are the jerks.

Anti-GPL-commenters.. feel free to not use any GPL software on your GP2X -- ie : return the machine.

The OS and components in the GP2X are released by people like us (average joes and companies alike) under the GPL, which requires anyone who modifies it to also release it .. source and all. Its about free dom.. we give our code away, so that anyone who receives a tool base don it knows they too can modify it. Its a system that prevents a company from taking freely given code and making something secret with it, thus 'stealing' it .. GPH took freebie code, knowing that by using it they have to return their changes to the pool for the greater good. But they've so far not released anything.

So the GPL folks (ie: All of us) shouldn't bitch them out, they're a small company; we need to bug them to make sure they comply, and if they do not comply, then we need to freak out on them.

Its all of our problem, since by GPH not releasing their changes they're violating the law, and further, holding back things.. then OpenGP2X project for instance, would be much further ahead if they had the source. (Remember, 99.999% of the GP2X source is not written by GPH.. its written by people like you and I.)

So anyway, GPH ar the pricks, and GPL zealots are often annoying.. but they're right.

Its simple.
GPH's firmware used linux which was under the GPL. They didn't release any/incomplete source code. It got slashdotted and in come a wave of emails to GPH, GBAX, Digisys and some other people that were not at fault.

This was from 1.0.0 to 1.2.1

Version 1.3 was delayed due to the inclusion of SD and DivX modules which needed to be removed from the source before release.

The next release with source seems to be 1.5.
