Ok, well. Correct me if i'm wrong here;

The 2nd Edition of GP2X has now been released, and if i haven't got things all wrong here, the 2nd Edition will have no problems with it's battery eating when it comes to movies?

A few weeks ago, people said there will be a firmwire avi for download to fix this problem, but now when the 2nd Edition is released, are they still willing to make this firmwire?

Imo, the first edition of the GP2X is pretty useless atm, if this is so..

Can someone tell me the exact situation here?

You can get around 5 hours on a good set of rechargeables.

There was no Second Edition.

There will be firmware that reduces battery consumption and boot time eventually.

Ahh, ok. I only seem to be able to watch 20 min of .avi with the current batteries i'm using :x

Even tho they are kinda high powered.

If they're alkalines (non-rechargeables) then they'll power your GP2X for about 20 minutes then die. You should by a decent set of 2500mAh NiMH rechargeables, they'll last you a long time.

Strangely I have never had any problems with video play back on any firmware. It might just be luck but I always convert my videos with mencoder before I put them on my SD. It stands to reason that the larger the resolution the more power the gp2x has to consume to resize the film. If you haven't tried it already resize your videos to 320x240 and see if it fixes your problem.

Does that even make sense?

The embedded 2D accelerator is displaying the video regardless of whether or not it is being scaled. I assume that means it is taking power.

How come on the Lik-sang advertisements it says "Gp2x second edition always in sock" or somthing very similar...

Quite simply because they are idiots and trying to find an excuse for not selling the 'first edition' ones on time.

It becomes clear that Lik-Sang have the only second-edition GP2X, which is so rare they never remove it from its sock.
