It's worth a try, but Dosbox is still not the world's most efficient program; I've seen it chew up 1.4GHz Tbirds running Arena.

yup. and having checked the website, elder scrolls needs VGA.. which dosbox on the gp2x doesn't really have support for.. sorry.

Not really. Elderscrolls of arena ran on standard dos. i.e. 320x200. Even daggerfall was 320x200.

You must be thinking of morrowind or somehting crazy like battlespire or redguard.

ah, it seems Jarska has the know of it. 320x200 at 256 was considered VGA in the good old dos days. Thanks.

Well, if dosbox ever supports the current version, i'll be sure to give it a go.

VGA has a palette of 256 colors at the same time in 320x200. (Or 16 colors on 640x400.) The version on 2X simply doesn't support it, IIRC.
It does, I used it for Tyrian 2000. Take a look into the filearchive. But Elderscrolls needs a mouse, so NO, till somebody implements mouse emulation.
