When I was using my GP2X AC Adapter when I was testing my gp2x, I got an idea. There could be lithium ion battery outside of the gp2x, and it could connect to the gp2x in the ac port, because there is no room for internal battery there should be External battery

yep or you could have more than 1 set of AA batteries and carry them instead, or have i missed the point?

Yes, I think you have; li-ion batteries have much higher capacity than Ni-MH ones.

3 hours+3hours not enough?

mmm the location of the dc in is in a pretty cruddy position

... and cost ridiculous amounts of money.

I'll stick with my AAs, thanks.

Why does everyone think NIMH batteries are so poor?

PSP Li-Ion battery
3.7V * 1.8Ah = 6.66Wh
6.66Wh/0.044kg = 151 Wh/Kg (power capacity per unit weight)
Expensive, needs specialized charger

NIMH battery
1.2V * 2.5Ah = 3Wh
3Wh/0.031kg = 97 Wh/Kg
Reasonably priced, chargers ubiquitous

Yes, the NIMH have less power density, but it's not that bad at all really. I'm not denying that Li-Ion are better, but seeing as there is no standard size for them we'd end up paying loads to buy a proprietary one from GPH.

I wonder whether they should have just designed it around the PSP battery, or a large mobile phone one from a Nokia or something? Someone needs to come up with a standard sized Li-Ion block already.

You're all right about Li-Ion batteries; the cost a lot and would cause lots of problems if integrated into the GP2X. However, I don't see anything being wrong with trying to make a pack for the GP2X, since battery life is reported to suck big time. Am I wrong?

I don't know what kind of batteries you guys are using ...

but i get close to 4-5 hours on my 2x

nromally id go out of my way to buy a batter pack but i feel unless they release the methonal battery packs (100 times longer that lithium-ion) then ill stick to batteries.

Which is MORE than you get on a PSP's Li-On.

... maybe yours, but I get at least 5 hours on my PSP.

</devil's advocate>

But IMO, AAs are easier to get, cheaper and easier to replace if they go bad (I actually found a pair that I had to throw out). I just got an official adapter, so I'm using that while at work and my AAs on the go.

It's close enough for me. :)

What I DIDN'T know was how long 2500 mAh's take to CHARGE!

But I picked up 8 AA's so I always have 2-3 extra sets at the ready, and plug in the duds about an hour or 2 before bed. No worries. :D

You can get chargers that only take 15 minutes, but I've heard they don't produce the same quality charge.

Well kinda ... they'll charge in 15 minutes, but you may only get 85% capacity (Just a guess) ... good ones will go into a trickle-charge mode after 15 minutes.

Anybody remember the person who physically modded his GP2X so he could stick a PSP battery in where the AA batteries would go? I thought it was rather neat due to the fact that it actually worked!
