They come in USB, and they come in up to 6GB, possibly 10GB in the near future. I bet one could fit one inside the GP2X easily. :)

yeah, that would be cool.
ROFL. I was waiting for someone to respond like that.

What would be really cool would be if there was some way to add storage to the gp2x in increments of, say, 2-4 gig. Of course, they'd need to be really small devices that were easy to carry, add and remove. I don't know, say about the size of a stamp. It'd also be fantastic if they were readily available due to the ease of integration with all manner of other devices (PCs, cameras, PDAs, etc).

*sigh* Oh well, who knows what the future might hold?

</sarcasm> :D

Maybe they could build an SD adapter for CF cards. I hear they come in all sorts of sizes. A bit bigger than a stamp, though. Depends on stamp, actually. That would be really handy. But.... :(

all you need is a USB adapter. build it/buy one from art103. with such an accessory, you can plug in whatever storage you want ..

i've got a JOBO Datatank (battery-powered hard disk) on mine. 60gigs of games, movies, pictures. piece of cake .. once you get that adapter, that is ..

just rip up a ipod the drives run on 3.3v and theyre cheap

once i get some money Im buying me a ipod mini harvesting the micro drive and selling on the parts ill have me a microdrive for cheap

then i can either mount it on the outside or somehow wire up a compact flash socket there must be room somewhere in the case

If you think laterally, its not that hard to see; the GP2X sticks out at the battery bit, so all they have to do space wise is produce a new ticker backplate. Right there you could account for 4AA's for extra life, and space for hardware add-ons, as long as a small adaptor can tap the bottom port, or split and tap the SD port.

Or is this just crazy talk ?

With all that weight, you may actually be able to knock someone out cold with it! :D

flash memory is the future. SD cards are getting bigger all the time and are much lighter and better for battery life than hard drives.

Just invest in a 4gb SD card.

well but a microdrive with like 20gb is an amount of space that will never be available to you using an SD card... maybe but not certainly! So it still is a nice idea to have an internal hdd in your gp2x especially since the microdrives don't really weigh much either...

although it would be nice to use as a weapon :D that would replace my pepperspray that I take at night lol... knocking out someone with your gp2x could damage the precious device though...

considering the fact that 2gb and 4gb SD cards are outside the SD spec and only a few 2gb cards are supported as of right now, its hard to say if you could ever get a 4 (or if they will ever make it) 8gb SD card, because the SD spec would need to be rewritten for it to include such devices. not to mention, hard drives are at a very low price right now, @ around $0.25 USD per Gb in some cases, and only getting cheaper. SD cards, while small and thin, are expensive to many users, my SD card (sandisk 1gb) was $70. i really cant afford a 2/4/8gb device

sephiroth111, 4GB SD cards are currently being sold. I got a A-Data 150x 4GB SD card that works perfectly on my GP2X.

You can find which SD cards work on the GP2X here:

http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/SD_card_compatibility

Future SD cards roadmap is found here:

http://www.sdcard.com/usa/TextPage.asp?Page=2

As you can see, there are plans to make 32GB SD cards. I wouldn't be surprised if they make an 8 GB SD by this summer or by the end of this year since the 4GB SD cards came out last summer.

When the 4GB SD cards first came out last summer, they were $399 or more. You can now find 4GB SD cards at eBay for as cheap as $149. I got my 4GB SD card at newegg.com for not that much more.
