There's your problem. Now go and read the readme.

why i don't hear any sound?
From the readme.txt file:

"To get sound, make sure the FXDevice in duke3d.cfg is set to 0. NumBits can be 8 or 16, and MixRate should be 16000.

To get music, set MusicDevice to 0."

Have you done that?

EDIT: actually just using the config from here works for me:

http://www-users.rwth-aachen.de/markus.vehring/duke3d.cfg

EDIT2: except that I can't actually get into the options screen, or indeed run the game. It just hangs and shows the background texture. Hooking up the serial output, I don't see it crashing - it just hangs. I'm using firmware 1.4 with the cramfs 0.0.4 change, and the shareware version (1.3d) of duke3d.grp (which is in the same dir as the gpe, as is the .cfg file).

you have to press A not B in "start new game",otherwise you'll.."exit" the menu and you'll have the background image with the music playing....

:(
It was the second time my Morissette detector had been triggered by you. It beeps madly whenever the word 'ironic' is abused.

Anyway, I'm off to buy duke nukem 3d now :)
