what is the kick.rom file? the uae4all readme says to put it in the directory along with uae4all.gpe but it doesn't mention what it is. And it doesnt say anything about the docs folder

The kick.rom file is (from what I understand) part of the Amiga's operating system and UAE4All therefore needs it to run.

The file is still licensed and therefore not legally available: you need to own it by virtue of having an old Amiga.

There are various versions of the kick.rom file as the ROM was updated over time: 1.3, 1.4 and 3.0, if my memory serves me. You want version 1.3, commonly named "kick13". You then need to save the file, renamed if necessary as "kick.rom" in the same directory as the uae4all.gpe file.

I had a lot of start-up issues with my Amiga emu. Scroll down the board and you'll see the answers to my questions. Just don't ask for ROMs on this board ;)

The kickstart rom you need is an image/snapshot of the rom chip found in the amiga computers. Unlike crappy windoze, the amiga operating system was contained on rom chips and the front-end, workbench, was what came on disk. If you have original amigas you can create the rom-files needed or failing that buy the excellent amiga forever which includes almost all early variations of the kickstart rom.

Copy and pasted from a site, No link though, As they host roms.

Question: What is 'kickstart' and where can I get one?
Answer: A kickstart ROM is part of the Amiga operating system and is somewhat comparable to the BIOS chip found inside a modern computer. Without a kickstart ROM, no Amiga could operate and neither can an Amiga emulator.
The Amiga kickstart is copyrighted material and thus it is illegal to own or obtain copies of one of a kickstart ROM unless you actually own a "real" Amiga.
You may be able to download Amiga kickstart ROMs from the web, however we can and will not help you with obtaining one so please don't ask us about it. And again, be warned that downloading an Amiga kickstart ROM without actually owning a "real" Amiga is illegal.

I assumed when writing the readme that people using it would have owned an Amiga in the past. If you never had an Amiga, you might like to read this:

It's also well worth reading the wikipedia entry for the Amiga:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga

and many other online references.

Some former commerically-sold games can be legally downloaded without having owned the original titles, and lots of PD software is also here:

Yeah, got to hate the fact that "Windoze" isn't built into chips on PCs. Then everyone would have to use Windows and would have no option to choose their OS, which would be great!

Actually, I could have stopped reading at the word "windoze", as that's a good sign that the post is going to be ill-thought-through.
