anyone remember this psone? sony released a special devkit type thing, with a japanese-sounding name.. and then magazines released the homebrew games created with it in their cover cds. I remember some of the games were actually really fun..

so, anyone remember it? it was black, and shaped like the old psone. pretty old and obscure.

Mmm, Net Yaroze.

PS2s come with YABASIC on the included CD but it's horrible. However you can run homebrew on unmodded PS2s. Yay.

It was Sony's first attempt at extending an olive branch to homebrew devs, It eventually colapsed when there wasnt enough quality content being generated by the program for Sony to use as a consumer leverage device. They wanted people to think "wow I might be able to make my own PS game one day!" and they only got a hand full of half finished deriviative clones (and most likely emulators)

Sony donated several to my old uni. They weren't black but very dark grey with a kind of rough matte finish. If I'd known they were going on Ebay for 200 quid I would have nicked them all.

Was that that cool thing where you had to rescue babys? That was so much fun.

Is there any place you can download the Net yarozie games? I'm guessing I'm alowed to ask this as they were homebrew.
