So is there a technical reason one shouldn't bother? Perhaps it has something to do with the diagonals. Or maybe he doesn't exactly deserve sympathy after a comment like that I'll shut up now bye.

That reply makes no sense.

Oh, sorry, am I being too scathing? Knocking your ability to reply to things?

Guys stop the flaming now. I don't think any of us meant for this thread to get like this so lets just leave it. Right.

Bacteria,
Fair enough, I'll add support for this setup in my football game (WIP). It isn't going to affect the gameplay for either setup. I'll go back and grab the whacky source and update it allow for this as well.

Hi,

You are absolutely right DaveC, and thanks for your positive feedback - there does not, at the moment, seem to be a need for a logic chip (sorry Radek - funny how the table turns...).

I thnk this comment is well out of order, and I'd like you to follow up with a list of GP2X homebrew that you have tested and which works 100% with your solution. I.e. Extraterrestres? Vektar?

Trying to score points against the efforts of other people is the sort of thing I have to put up with in work, and it's not productive there either.

I would have been quite happy to buy one of these off you once you had the design tidied up a bit, but I'm not even sure now if you've been reading your own thread properly, going by some of the replies you've given (cf. Goity's statement of compatibility.)

Thanks.

First off, some good work there with a getting a d-pad onto the GP2X - it doesn't look pretty, but it's WIP and u stated it would get better looking - so more credit to you.

After following all the post's in this thread it is clear that this is an option with limited compatability ( limited could be 98 %, but hey it's still limited ). Again this does not mean that this option is no good as most people play emulators.

But Radeks solution should provide 100% compatability as it emulates the stick but utilising a d-pad. Radeks solution does require modification of the case however - so goes slightly beyond the 'u just need to be able to use a soldering iron' skill level.

Both options involve opening the case, so both void the warranty.

The biggest stumbling block for me, is whilst most people play emu's - some other commercia/non-commercial software may appear and may require the diaganols and then that 2% may come back and bite any prospective buyer in the ass.

I've tried to sum up this thread and get over a few point so please don't take this as a flame.

Cheers

In my experience beggers usually spend their money on drugs.

I'm not buying you $2.50 of crack.
Nice, and friendly. If you live in a greehouse, don't throw bricks.
*sigh* that was supposed to be a joke.

Next time I'll append:

WARNING: JOKE ALERT!

Jmetal88 Thank you for your comments, my closing statement definitely was not aimed at you. Those reading the threads will know precisely who the people that I was referring to are, and why any reasonable person would have come to the same conclusion, that I have done.
Oooh, was I one of the bad ones? I've just gotta know!

Just so you know, I like your solution better than the one Radek is offering. (I don't want to drill my case)

I would not, however, buy it without his logic converter. Basically, and I've said this before, I think the ideal solution would be a Bacteria dpad and a Radek solderless logic converter.

It would be cool if you were to get together and offer a bundle deal so we could get both in the same package (like he seemed to offer in his 'hijack'). However you seem to see Radek as the enemy for some reason. This makes me a little sad because the perfect stick replacement seemed so close and now it looks like I'll end up having to drill my case.

Anyhow, no flames intended. I think you just misread my intentions in this thread. (i.e. hoping that you would work with radek, not trying to flame you).

Send me one and I will do an independant user trial for you. It will void my warranty but hey I can afford to replace mine and a lot of younger users can't.

My loss of warranty and testing will offset your £11 fee. I think this is a fair exchange.

I will even agree to return the unit at the end of the trial or buy it.

Bacteria, I hope you take vic20-ian up on his offer, it would be the perfect way to qualm any doubters (of which I admittedly am one).
