New Computer Time

plukkin hell... looks like it wont be here tomorrow or Sat :(... my order still says In Progress....

Edit... Saying that, my Novatech order was Despatched on 29th and I would have received it today 30th if I was in (Got a letter through the door) :p

Hey that motherboard's the same one I got and I'm not an expert at this stuff cause I just got a new barebones PC a few months ago (had my old PC for about 5 years now). The motherboard so far seems to be very good and MSI claims they're very good for overclocking your CPU. I can't guarantee how long it'll last but I'm sure MSI is a great company and I've been hearing good things about them.

The K8N SLI Motherboard also comes with tons of USB slots on the back incase ya need a bunch of them. The board saved me some money as I didn't have to buy a new sound card or need to plug in an ethernet adaptor as they come built into the mobo. Well I don't know if alot of other new motherboards are like this as I'm not too up to date on this stuff but it seems to be very good and you can upgrade to a dual core processor later on when you need to.

cool :D Yup, MSI are one of the best for motherboards

Bad news :(... Looks liek they are still awaiting delivery of the XFX cards :(

i bought an xfx graphics card and am pretty happy with it, except that it has two small fans on it and so it's pretty loud. also, does that mainboard have a northbridge fan? it looks like it does from the pic. i'd recommend ordering a replacement one as, once again, the one that came on mine is pretty loud. building my own computer taught me that bigger fans are typically much quieter.

also, if you're gonna use windows xp, make sure you buy a copy. hopefully you are retiring a computer and you can just transfer the license (microsoft is pretty good about letting you do that). "my friend" tried to use a bootleg copy on a number of computers, and they all had a similar problem with hard drives..."my friend" actually had a total of three hard drives literally break (clicking noises, stop spinning, etc) before figuring out what was to blame.

drive bay card readers aren't too pricey...

XFX cards are pretty damn loud, yeah. Can always replace the fan. Also, "your friend" used a dodgy copy, or it's just a coincidence.

Sounds like dodgy Drives ;)... Never had a problem on all 8 computers that I use it on ;) :p

Rico, I take it your status is still "In Progress" ??? :( on a Plus side I received my Novatech Order so I can get building soon :)

Yep, I recieved my OcUK order straightaway. Since I come home on Sunday, I'm not bothered too much about the weekend delay, but it's the principle that matters.

edit: 32 due on 13/04/2006

That's simply too fucking late. Fuck this, I'll pick it up from OcUK for a little more.

FFS... looks like its time to look for somewhere else :(

---EDIT---

I say just stick with Lowestonweb... Most other sites are Awaiting Deliveries of them etc as well :(

Overclockers does it for £235, which is as cheap as you're going to find outside of LoW. Plus I have a lan on the 11th :) and I want to play Oblivion :)

ahh ok then :)....

I supose if you have a Lan comming up then its best to order from somewhere else that has it instock...

I will stick with low as its an extra £35 - £60 savings that can go towards another 1GB Ram kit ;) :D hehe..

i know it does, but i had the exact same thing happen in three computers...excuse me, my friend did.

first, windows would hang. then you'd have to do a hard reset, at which point disk scan would begin, but would get the partition table wrong or something and just start "fixing" everything by writing garbage. if left unchecked this activity would stress the drives to the point that they physically broke. sounds weird but, weirder things have happened. i realize that the copy i was using must have been crap, and there probably are good ones out there, but at that point i figured i'd have better luck if i just bought another copy of windows, and i don't plan on doing differently in the future.

and no we go back to your regularly scheduled topic.

lowestonweb have now delayed the card a full month, to 30/04/06...

also, apparently when I cancelled the gfx card they went and cancelled my entire order. I simply re-ordered it, but switched from the 3500 to 3200 for slightly better value for money.

Yup... Got the email from them saying that... Looks like I will have to use somewhere else which is a bitch as I didnt want to spend over £200 but I realy want that card :(

--EDIT--

Rico... which one are you going for on OCuk?? I just noticed that Their range of the XFX 7900GT (The £235 one you found) is also Out of Stock / Pre Order.. :(

--EDIT2 --

FFS, Everywhere Seems to be out of stock!!!...

Ebuyer - Out of Stock / Overdue
Novatech - Out of Stock / Overdue
LOW - Out of Stock / Overdue
OcUK - Out of Stock / Overdue
Scan - Out of Stock / Overdue
komplett - Out of Stock / Overdue
Dabs - Out of Stock / Overdue

It was in stock when I ordered it but I should know that doesn't count for anything. Might explain why they haven't shipped it yet.

"Your order has been sent to our warehouse but not yet printed.
If your order remains in this state for several hours there may be an out of stock item delaying your orders progress."

It's a good thing my order contains only one item since they're not telling me WHAT item is out of stock or for that matter WHEN it'll come back in stock. I know there's a shortage on 7900 GTs but when you see In Stock or 'arriving in a few days' you tend to assume it's true.

Hope you receive it in time for your Lan party...

Think I will stick with Low again as everywhere else is sold out (Unless somewhere else gets it back instock, then I will switch :) )

Also, 3200 seems a better choice price wise, 3500 is something like a £40 - £50 jump from the 3200 isnt it?

Yeah it goes 3000 (£80), 3200 (£90), 3500 (£120) so I'm not sure what I was thinking. Also picked up a pair of speakers, and mobo+CPU are arriving tomorrow so no complaints there.

edit: the XFX 7900 GT has switched to 'pre-order' as it's out of stock, but they switched me to the BFG OC at my recommendation and charged me the difference (it's clocked a little faster). That should be with me tomorrow. Just so you know, the cards OcUK claims are in stock (OcUK own brand, Leadtek and BFG OC) are actually in stock.

ok, might go for the BFG but will have a quick look around first incase I can find one slightly cheaper :)

just Read that their has been bad results with the BFG card :( -

The only board partner who seems to have reliably shipped enough initial units is BFG Technologies, but a quick scan of reviews has shown disappointing results. The largest complaint has been faulty capacitors, many even shipping with loose ones rattling in the box. Due to high demand, RMA has been difficult, to say the least.

:(

Well as I said there's always the own brand or Leadtek cards in stock. From the looks of things, the manufacturing process for the BFG card is knocking off some capacitors, but you can solder them back on.
