yep, will be signing as well as my fiance, thats totally crazy what they are doing, not like the record studios, not the bands, don't have enough money already.

It's not like every band out there makes an instant million when they first release a CD. But yeah, the recording industry is a bunch of jews, and they still charge too much for legit MP3 download sites. MP3's are easy and inexpensive, and they still want to make more money than they're worth for them. There's a bunch of CDs I want, but I can't afford them now because they're almost 20 bucks, even for lesser known bands. So, do these bands deserve my money? Yes. Do they get it? no, because the bastards that run their recording labels want too much money, then the record stores need the markup so they can profit off of the CD, which they deserve also or else there would be no place to buy CDs. I guess the point I'm trying to get across is: I'm all for legit music purchasing. but with the economy the way it is, and the lack of focus to embrace the Internet for legit music downloads, the music industry will crumble, or grow increasingly lame with less and less talented artists.

I don't support 'completely free' music downloading. But I would like to see cheaper music again. Most of the music I download is techno, rare stuff that can't really be found in your typical record store (or atleast not around here). I've only downloaded like maybe 2-3 full albums, and I have decently big collection of CDs. But of thoses artists whose music I've downloaded, I've paid to go to their concerts or have supported them in some other way. I do download single MP3s here and there. The only thing that upsets me is how expensive the music industry has gotten. They've become extremely greedy in a time when the economy could use less of that. And since nobody can afford most of the crap they want to buy, they'd rather just steal it. It's an unfortunate human characteristic that has now been corrupted by the latest in technology.

The way I see it, only good comes from free music sharing:
1.The people high in the music industry don't get a dime.
2.Musicians can get a lot of exposure relatively cheap.
3.Musicians don't get too rich too quickly (that's a bad thing, every second guy get addicted to heroin, which makes drug dealers richer)
4.People can download hundreds of songs and get inspired, and may become musicians themselves (If I couldn't download hendrix, ledzep and AC/DC songs on the net I wouldn't learn to play guitar)

All we need is some way to pay musicians directly through the net, and bye bye RIAA.

Yeah, but the musician's didn't publish their music on MP3, they did it on CDs, CDs that were used to make the MP3s from.

Musicians don't just want exposure, they do want money for their work. Yes, there are a lot of overpaid musicians out there, but it's not like they have job security. And playing out for little money really gets to you.

And this thing about them 'not getting rich too quickly', that's what the entertainment industry is. We worhsip our entertainers and give them lots of our money. And what's with this whole thing about 'then they get addicted to heroin'. The three artist you listed that you said inspired you to play guitar are/were avid drug users also. Hell, Jimi Hendrix died of a drug overdose.

People can be inspired to become musicians if they pay for music also. What, is there a new philosophy out there 'I've been inspired by your music, but it's not worth any money, you should just starve to death for all your hard work'?

And on another note, all those musician's you listed that inspired you to play guitar, their CDs can be bought easily enough.

You didn't really get my point.
I said that we should pay the musicians themselves (last line), not the record companies.
About the drugs, I believe that jimi hendrix, bon scott and john bonham might have been alive today if fame had'nt gotten over their heads.
About paying for music, it's not like I don't buy anything at all.
first of all, I wouldn't know what to buy if I couldn't dowload songs.
Second, no one can buy EVERYTHING ledzep or ac\dc did, so if you buy one or two cd's of their's they get exposure and get paid. I doubt if any band want people to go broke if they want to get inspired by them.

The thing that bugs me about the music industry is that they have been trading off all this pop trash where it's no longer about decent music it all about a style and trends. The industry controls the radio stations and clubs where the music THEY want played get played so the average sheep think this is what music is all about. The music today is so throwaway. The stuff I'm into i have been listening to for years.Don't get me wrong-there is some good new stuff around but too much crap gets through. If the music industry is loosing money to mp3 downloads its cause they overcharging for crap. This is a neek jerk reaction ment to frighten off the average dudes and won't touch anyone who makes money off mp3 downloads.Maybe the music industry will re-evaluate its buisness method and start thinking about the music again instead of the money.

I also signed it when it was featured on /. (I think?) A great idea, as we all know how much money the record companies make out of over-priced CDs in a cartel... seriously, the model for music is changing. People want to put music into their iPod or play it on their computer, move it around, into their car, tablet PC or mp3 player. People want freedom with the music they bought. The model will change to an artist-sustained iTunes-like system where good music, not well-marketed music, is the music that survives.

I hope.
