Psx4gp2x Beta Testers Thread

Would it work to render the screen with just evry 2nd line missing but half the res(instand of black lines) and than scale it up to fullscreen with the hardware scaler? May give way better results.

Will I be able to download the beta 2 here? If not, can it be sent by pm?

Vimacs! Why didn't I think of that! It works great! We now have all the benefits of progressive mode, but without the weird distortion! Great job Vimacs!

It will be included in Beta 2. I really need some testing done with the new features that were just put in. Would it be ok if a beta 2 came out later tonight or tommorow? I really wanted some of this stuff in beta 1 but the time frame didn't allow for it. So how about a beta 2? Any reason it shouldn't be an open beta?

Thanks everyone for the great feedback...

As long as people are aware it's for testing, not for fun, I don't see a problem with making it an open beta.

The people that will actually do testing will give you the necessary feedback too.
EDIT: Tonight would be great for me... who needs sleep anyway ;)

Aww. dont make Unai angry, =(

Open beta would be better. more bug reports! yummy.

is it possible to run gp2xpsx / psx games via samba ? will it be slowere due to going through usb or what?

zodttd, id like to be included in beta2, (even thou this wont happen)
so i think it should be a public release.

As long as you word it accordingly, maybe put a spash screen at start-up explaining its a beta, theres no reason not to, it would be much more simpler for you (no messing about with pm's) and you would (hopefully) get a lot more feedback.
Although there is the risk of this thread being filled up with "OMG this is amazing!" posts, and no real info for you on framerates and such..

Also, i am going to donate to you and unai for the impressive work done so far, should i split money evenly? (never donated before, a bit confused)

openbeta would be nice.. have still many images on my pc from the last official version. i really would like to help!

I had the same question, I would like to donate, but I would like the money to stay on the GP2x side, so with zotddt and unai.

Thanks again for the cool work, and amazing progress. This is the app that makes me happy I chose a gp2x and not a psp.

I suppose the fair thing to say would be to split the donation 50/50 with Unai and I. :)

Ok, I'm getting things going for beta 2. It will be an open beta.
Things I did so far:
- I got texture caching working. Thing is, there must be a bug somewhere in the code since every once and awhile the fps dip to 1! And thats from 20+. So once thats fixed beta 2 will be coming out. If I can't fix it I'll drop texture caching for a few days.
- I added the fix for Chrono Cross / Squaresoft games. This should make FF7's splash screens not flicker anymore. It might also help the PAL version from not crashing...perhaps.
- I did Vimacs awesome suggestion for interlace 1 + hardware scaling. I completely forgot that scaling up is easy on the GP2X. It doesn't look that pretty (the Zodiac's scaler had smoothing ::sniff:: ) but it makes the game full screen with the speed benefits of interlacing. As well as none of the distortions that progressive interlacing causes.
- I added various tweaks here and there. More on them later.

I'll try to hurry (though not rush ;P ) on Beta 2 since I know Beta 1 is a bit ugly to the eyes.

Back to work...

Awesomely cool Zodttd, can't wait to try out all the games I've got, whether they be good or not.

Sounds great. One question: would it help to maintain the aspect ration when you scale up? Or are you already doing that?

This all sounds really promising.

Nice to see the effort everyone is putting into this. :)

Abe's Odysee would be cool, anyone given Dark Forces a go?

@zodttd, I think there are still some other minor bugs in the gpu that need fixing, but I'm guessing that unai and his testers are aware of them. I guess we'll see if they're still there in the next beta. :)

If you have bugs tell teham any way , I prefrfer bugg redundancy to bug missing.

P.S. In the beta are 2 GPE's. One is called 2dfix. That version hasn't been tested by me. It supposedly fixes something wrong with 2D games, but Unai had mentioned it might break MDEC movies, so I kpet them seperated.
Try 2DFIX first, if it messes up, try the regular version and see if its any different.

In fact the 2dfix its only known to work with Batman forever and Earth Worm Jim2, an screen flickrng problem, but mdec doent work then.

@ Una-i, here's a screenshot of a bug in tekken2. Sorry for the bad quality, but you can see what I mean.

The polygons get stretched beyond the size of the screen at times, look at law's leg and Jun's body. This effect happens in a flashing manner, but only seems to affect the same group of polygons, I'd say around ten in total.

This is from Ace Combat 3. On the second screenshot you can see I accessed to map in the game, but once the button was released, part of the map remains on the screen. In the first one you can see the problems with the polygons on the horizon.

I hope some of this helps. :)

Zodttd: This dynarec, when do we get that?
I've heard that every little code has to be perfect to get it working - is this true?

 I just tried Armored Core: PP, an it is quite playable (not really enjoyable but still)

Runs at 14 fps in Demo mode and about 9 ingame, at a quite good speed.

I tried to make a video with my TV capture card, but it seems that Psx4gp doesn´t work too well with it - everything is displayes at a 160x240 resolution...
