It's Arrived - What's This About A Screen Protector?

My Mk2 GP2X arrived today from gp2x.co.uk - but after reading all the fuss about taking screen protectors off and putting them on, all I had was the usual peelable film protecting the screen in transit that all electronic goods have when they're new. There was no other plastic protection sheet in the box (and no batteries, for that matter) and I don't seem to have a second protective film on the screen itself that needs to be taken off.

What am I missing?

the screen protector is on from the start now on mk2's
you dont need to put it on any more
So yes i wouldnt think theres a plastic protection sheet
and batteries, i wouldnt care because they only last 10minutes

i always thought it was strange that the screen 'protector' wasn't alsways put on as standard, you definatly would not want to use theu nit without it...though i guess it meant you could buy a glass one instead and not have to worry about removing the old.

and as pantera6 said, the batteries were rubbish anyway, and caused a lot of people to think their units were faulty, or that 10mins is all you get...

About time the screen protector came installed on the GP2x. I spent a long time when I got mine trying to ensure I got no dust between the screen protector and the LCD screen; still got a few bits though (not noticable).

Any dust on your LCD window??

None whatsoever - but I can't detect a screen protection layer on there at all. It's been laid on by a precision machine if it's there!

The film on the screen left a tiny bit of glue on the right hand side of my screen... so I was a tiny bit cross that the screen protector wasn't on to begine with. I have got used it it now though.

Yeah I can't detect one either on my MK2 that just turned up. Has anyone actually confirmed that the MK2 has one pre-installed ?

SOmeone above says it does but I'm 99% positive from inspecting mine EXTREMELY closely that it doesn't. And I got a scratch on mine now. :(

Same here, min GP2X just arrived today with no screen protector or joystock cap, so I have just emailed them for confirmation, will let you know

Just guessing here as Im new to this as well, i have a first edition that came with the protecter off.

Are you guys sure it has not been put on before, if you have one installed the protector will be flush or just slightly raised in line with the top of the 2x where the pads are, you dont have to look to hard to see this and not extremely close as one poster has said, if its not on there will be a small dip where the screen protector fits maybe 5mm or so and I think the unprotected screen is that soft touch TFT screen material if I remember rightly and not hard perspex as the protector is.

OK I think this needs cleared up...
Is the screen protector 1) a thick piece of plastic or 2) a very thin layer that is sticky on one side and sits ontop of the hard plastic?

I answered this one in another thread (maybe the "I just got..." thread?) and the answer is that the THICK piece of plastic is the actual screen protector.

Ditto. My GP2X arrived from gp2x.co.uk yesterday. Screen protector installed and no AAs in the package. This is fine, since I'm using rechargeable Energizers.

They stopped adding these for the reason that they were cheapie and lasted a total of five minutes. WOnder how many people thouht their GP2X was defective. When I ordered my MK1 I did...thsoe colored lines werea scary sight!

Ooookay:

MK1: Had a thick plastic screen protector, with a white film on one side and a nearly invisible film on the other side (the reason most people claimed it's scratched!). You had to put on that protector yourself. To protect the LCD, there had also been a film on it you needed to remove (marked with a red triangle).

MK2: Has the thick plastic screen protector already installed. Therefore, there is NO film to remove on the LCD (you couldn't access it ;)) NO white film on the protector (you also couldn't access it) but a film on the outside of the protector (way better visible than the nearly invisible one). That's the only thing you need to remove.

So the el-cheapo plastic with the tab sticking out to remove it is the shipping cover, and there's something under that? I touched that and it feels like a hard-plastic LCD cover. Seems scratchable. Shouldn't I get a PDA screen protector for it?

In the mean time, being David, I put the el-cheapo plastic cover back on. Say hello to bubbles! *chuckles*

With my MK2 (and the shipping protector off) I've had no scratching issues.
I haven't been able to get the case yet (birthday coming up soon ;) ), and it just sits in the inner pocket of my suit (with nothing else in there) and it's fine.
It does smudge a lot with finger oils, etc, but I have a glasses wiper that cleans it all fine.

There are some very minor scratches that you can see if you hold it at an angle to the light, but not when viewing normally - so I'm happy.

So, to sum up, the hard cover on the MK2 seems to be extremely durable. Even more so than the one on my phone, MP3 player or PDA (I have too many gadgets to carry...)

I'm an artist - once I find imperfection it's hard to let go. I recall when my Tablet PC's LCD display first developed "dusties" underneath the LCD screen. *cries softly*

I'm a huge pedant, so pretty much the same (not as artists, you understand - that I hate imperfections :p ).
I have a single mote of dust underneath my protector :( which is annoying, but the scratches are completely invisible when viewing straight on.

I also have CD scratch filling solution at home that works wonders on these kind of hairline scratches, so I might see if that works and suggest other people try it.
