Hi everybody,

Sorry if I'm making a mistake, but after searching around, and talking with people I think that to ask, is the only thing left to me.
I've faced a problem with quite every emulator, (washed screen, waving diagonal lines etc.) cause since the new firmwares takes control of the lcd timing, I've discovered (thanks a lot to god_at_hell who explained it to me!) that applications like mame, hu6280, squidge, drmx and so on, force lcd timing settings without look at the global settings (lcd utility) even when launched from a cpu_tweak script, so this is NOT a script related problem.
They take control of the lcd and that's it. This should be a feature for 1.0 firmwares where the lcd is managed in different way.
Now, got_at_hell compiled mame commenting the lines about lcd control and everything is ok ... except for the fact that mame and gngeo, are the only emu with sources in the wild (...).

So basically I would ask the coders (Reesy, Vobbo, Squidge and Pepone) , if is possible to make a patched version good also for firmware 2.0 or if they do not have time, where I can find the sources so I can compile one (with a selector for 1.0/2.0?).

Thanks in advance to people who will kindly answer me, hope this will help people with new firmware to enjoy your great emulators!

hey! this is a great idea. I hope that you were able to track down the real problem if it is so easy to fix.

im i start most emus with a script for the lcd tool and it seems to work for me, i didnt tried mame and gngeo yet, but SquidgeSnes, DrMD and PSX4all seem to work this way. had this waves before and now they are gone.
everything looks great now this way except the gp2x menu, argh i want to delete that :) is anyone still working on a good replacement?

PS: just found out that GnuBoy2x doesnt work at all if i start it with a script, just a black screen

I noticed this with MAME where a faint whit line appeared on the left and the gamma got lighter. I asked Franxis about it but he seemed to indicate that he didn't know about it or didn't agree that the problem existed. Maybe he just didn't want to change it. Could you release a MAME hacked version without the internal LCD settings?

Quick comment about MAME:

I use a script, with the gamma set to 0.6 ... before I did this, MAME was too light (especially Super Pang, where you could see the faint outline of the sprites for scores, player lives, etc.)

After using the script, the screen is no longer too bright, so the gamma settings 'stick'.

@DaveC
The problem exist to me too... (and I don't think I'm anal, more than average), exactly is composed by:
- the whity line on the left of the screen to me too.
-Tiny weaving diagonal lines across the screen
-Brightness/gamma brighter (black is not black)

...and it make the experience really cheap!

The compiled one from god_at_hell let you mantain globally value from display utility to the lcd also during emulation (easy to fix and incredibly better looking!), just commenting out the lines about the lcd settings.

For TelcoLou/Sonic-NKT: thanks for your help, I didn't noticed gamma parameter before (...).
Sadly, I think it changes the pixels making them tends or to the black or to the white, using high gamma value to me make the picture black, but not less brighter, while the brightness/luminosity (?) is controlled from another parameter, which is the one altered from the cpu freq.In fact the script could solve the problem with the first two parameters, those before cpu freq value, but is overtaken by emulator internal lcd setting... what firmware do you use? Is only a problem for 1.4/2.0 owners? Are all using 1.2?
Seems that users with 1.0/1.2 do not suffers this problem causing misunderstanding.

Thanks all, hope this tiny problem will be solved soon..!
:)
