I thought I'd start a thread inviting people to suggest games that they like, and would like to share, that the general playing poulation might not know about. I was inspired by a poster's mentioning of "Varth" in MAME, a great vertical shooter I had never heard of, with a name I would probably have not looked at twice!

So, please feel free to mention a game or two (or three) that you think might e overlooked, but worth trying! I'll start.

1) Cadillacs and Dinosaurs - true this might be more well-known by some, but it's a great gem of a game and if you haven't played it, you're missing out on good fun!
2) Red Baron - this is an uber-old-skool vintage piece: blue raster polygon dogfighting! Looks waay cool on the GP2X;s screen. Try it out!

BTW, this thread is also dedicated to the whiners that say they don't like a system where they can't play games for more than 10 seconds... See if you can stop pumping credits into Cadillacs and Dinosaurs!

I would like to see similar threads for all the systems, possibly stickied, or in someway highlighted. I look foward to your secret gems of games!

"Juno First" is probably a game that many know about. I don't know. But I have to have a fix of this almost every day and then it is hard to put down. :)

Chelnov (aka Atomic Runner)
Arabian
Circus Charlie
Pooyan
Congo Bongo
Oscar (aka Psycho-Nics Oscar)
Xybots
Two Tigers

I've been a MAME user since 1997 so I'm well pleased with my GP2X having over a thousand arcade ROMs.

its interesting though to see which ones work on the move and which don't :)

I have to recommend a game I've been playing recently "Block Out"

(which was apparently out on C64, Genesis, Lynx and PC too but I never saw it)

Developed in 1989 by California Dreams it's a great 3D Tetris.

I think it is the perfect game to just play in little bursts. It has a difficulty select right at the beginning so you don't have to constantly play through the easy levels once you master it.

Once you figure out the 3 rotate keys - you won't be able to put it down.

id have to say

S.T.U.N Runner.

although i have it on the C64 and the lynx it just doesnt have the same feel to it as the arcade original. i hope 1 day the gp2x will support it.

Quiz and Dragons---Some of the questions are getting quite dated, but the game is still very fun for the most part. Also, Stocker has always been a favorite, but it is sadly unsupported on the gp2x. It's a simple enough game that I hope it makes it into a future build.

Thanks for all the replies so far! S.t.u.n. Runner, if I remember correctly, was a resource hog and took a fast computer to get it running at full framerate - besides not being currently emulated on the GP! Let's make this a list of cool games that are playable now, since there are other topics for wish lists.

I'll add another -

"Captain Commando" - similar to the beat'em up style of Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, with colorful characters to choose from and great, keep-the-quarters-coming gameplay. Capcom rules!

Ok, wow, jut discovered "Juno First" on MAME! Like a vertically-scrolling "Defender", cool. I'd heard of it before but never checked it out. An impressive first play.

ZOMG! "Blaster", the sequel (?) to Robotron.

Anybody who knows anything, knows Williams can do no wrong, and this pre-polygonal sprite-based 3-D shooter is no exception (think "Space Harrier", as cool, but different and harder).

How can such great games have such bland names?!?!

Here's another - "Captain Silver"! Looks like the drawings you did when you were in the 5th grade, come to life. Hysterical, especially the werewolves jumping at you. Try not to die, keep powering up your sword, it gets ridiculously powerful after about five powerups, lol.

I find myself unable to stop playing Elevator Action - it's even better than I remember from my youth :)

Yeah - Elevator Action - excellent!

Also 'cosmic guerilla' - but unfortunately not supported on current gp2x mame :(

Stargate for anyone who likes Defender..
Rainbow Islands - although I prefer the Atari ST (OutcaST) version.
Gravitar - bit like Asteroids.
Galaga - for galaxians fans.

All-time fave? >>BERZERK!<<

On a sidenote - do samples work??

Kev
