Monkey Island? Scumm

hey guys. im new here(in fact i dont even have a gp32 yet, but im getting one in like 15 days.) i was wondering if i could play full throttle on the gp. im pretty sure its SCUMM based. altho i kno it normally runs off the cd.

Why Gary I'll have you know that I own every single ROM that is on my GP32, in physical form.

/bull

:) Yes but warez/abandonware is usually not discussed on these boards, I don't know if the admin likes it. He might for instance ban people who ask about it ...

What the heck.

deanolive: http://aw.localhost.ee/aw/category/2.html Go there, look for "Secret of Monkey Island" and "Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge". You'll have to register for an account (it takes less than minute, with no spam) and also you might find the server busy, just continually refresh the download page until you get it. I've got tons of old Scumm games from here. It's worth the trouble, especially for DOTT.

Instructions: copy the monkey/monkey2.000 and .001 files to your GPMM dir, and it'll work :) (provided you have ScummVM, GP edition)

tomcap: Same site also offers Full Throttle. However FT doesn't run perfectly with ScummVM yet. Cutscenes and action scenes are missing, plus you won't be able to sit the speech in there. Otherwise you can play the puzzle parts fine.

A question for you guys: Anybody got the monster.sou file for DOTT (Day of the Tentacle), full version? I only have the floppy edition, which has sound for the intro and one cutscene, but not for every sentence. If you have a link or a fast connection (I can download it off you at up to 600 Kbps) please share it! I might have something you need.

thanx for replying so fast, but dispite wut u say, i dont c full throttle on that list. maybe u were thinking of another site. no matter, i have the origonal cd right infront of me now. is there a way i can jsut take the files off of it? wut files would i need?

rico i saw DOTT with talkies on Kazaa not long ago...say 5 days ish, only one person had it but you might be able to find it...
but of course ROM's are illegal ^_^

Shrike: A kind soul has offered it up :)

tomcap: If I'm honest I didn't check, I assumed the site had it, as it has most Scumm games :( No matter, search around your CD directory for a .000, .001 and monster.sou file (in the same directory) and copy them to your ScummVM directory.

Rico! you are now my own personal god! I checked that link and when scrolling down the list (i admit in the hopes of stumbling across some old space quest roms) and i rediscovered loom!!! LOOM DAMMIT!!!!!! I love that game but i cant play it any more thanks to my stupid bust old acer. I *MUST* buy a GP32 now. I just have to. Roll on payday :D

Loom's a problem case atm, unfortunately, as are all the EGA games - you need 256 colour versions, which means LoomCD. Only problem with the CD version is that its sound-files are waaaaaay too big for an SMC, unless you compress them as an MP3.
Which isn't supported as yet.
LoomCD is one of my dreams for ScummVM (amazing game... real shame they never made a sequel), but its not available yet... or at least, not with sound, which was one of Loom's major nicenesses.

Having said that, the ScummVM team are now focusing their efforts (according to their site) more on the old EGA games, so we might see those popping in along with the new GP32 version at some stage. With a bit of luck :).

Im offering a big hug for anyone who makes loom work. 2 hugs. and a pat on the back. and an extra hug. and ill tell all my friends your cool.

How can you turn that down? ;)

As Tobriand said, download the 256-colour Loom, delete monster.sou and run on GP32.

However as he also (partially) said, ScummVM devteam are now trying to get the remaining scumm games to work, including Maniac Mansion (the original, heh), and the other EGA games.

Also, ScummVMGP devteam will eventually add mp3/ogg compression if it's viable to do it on the fly (perhaps prebuffered? If you can put up with small pauses...) which can shrink the sounds to as little as 12mb.

There is no monster.sou on the talkie version... it's the only game which uses a CD-Audio track (sadly, you can't run the game from harddisk... I hate searching the CD first before playing ;))
