Looks like we're getting a new firmware for our GP2Xs.
A quote from gp2x.com:
Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry.
The next gp2x firmware will be out around middle of July.

Regards,

Anna
Get ready everyone!

This follows the theory of the few that brick will be able to unbrick if they wish, but bricks are used to build houses and so on

/ Waits for upgrade impatiently, what a lemming !!!

... get ready for what? Any new features/fixes?

Not much point in releasing one if there's neither of those. ;)

... yes, and I was curious as to what I should get ready for. What new features are going to be included with said new FW, and what if any bug fixes will be implimented?

</more precise query> :p

Haha. I'm hoping reliable video playback and a default GUI which doesn't burn out my eyes.
*sings: Ca-ndy!* http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,52,1603 ;)

It'd be interesting to know what they're planning for this release; there are some improvements needed, but I wouldn't think anything big would be completed since 2.0.

New codecs, maybe?

There are three things that could be improved/fixed:
  1. - graphics messing up for a split second in the bottom part of the screen when you first move the cursor after boot-up
  2. - GUI flickering heavily in the Video Playback section (where you select SD, Nand, Ext)
  3. - faster boot-up, although the current speed is more than fine as far as I'm concerned. It sure beats Windows ;)

I want to see full Gamepad support that wraps the HID input to the buttons driver, or maybe someone could code an app :).

I think the Mplayer could be much better, anyone close to programming for the Video Processor (The HARDWARE mpeg2/mpeg4 encoding/decoding core, NOT the second ARM9), then we could just port real mplayer straight across onto the handheld and pick up many features.

Someone could ask about the features at gp2x.com
Of course not!! Ignorance is bliss, so we're happier sitting around saying what we wished the next firmware had, rather than complaining about what it actually does.
