And as for the headphone jack being on the top - as TKF15H said, it's definitely not a problem with the cable looped under..

My biggest problem is the power lead that sticks out causing you to have to position your right-hand around it to play, being careful not to unconnect it. I can't see Firmware 2.1 fixing that...!

When designing hardware, you have to sometimes sacrifice user comfort over efficient board layout or cheaper manufacturing.

Upgrading from fw 1.2.1 to 1.4 made the sound for a load of games play twice as fast.
Upgrading from fw 1.4 to 2.0 changed the vsync code so a load of games started screen-tearing.

What will the new fw upgrade do to break our work?

I must say that I look forward to the new release.

As far as I know the new company which created the latest 2.0 firmware did an extremely good job with their first release solving a lot of problems already.

Having said that, there are some things which would make my life easier.

A lower volume startup sound or no sound because I\'m blowing my ears everytime I restart with my headphones on. (I know I can change this but it would be nice to have it standard.

More codecs for the movieplayer with the option to fit the screen if the movie is in movie format instead of TV format (Is this already possible?)

When going in Movies, or Pictures, or every other file selector you can go up by pressing X. but you cannot return to the main menu by pressing X, you have to press start for that, I just want to press the X key just one more time.

The explorer mode should just show everything and if you select a image it should open the imageviewer, and if you click on a application it should start the application. (Think about this, you have a readme, an image file and an emulator in one folder and you want to view them all, now it takes a lot of steps to do this which should not be needed)

By the way,

Could someone who is fluent in Korean make the requests for new features on the GP2X site?

I think we have a better chance to communicate with GP2X if we gather all requests here and after translating them send them to them.

i am using the unit in my car, too. so,

1.) a music-player with visualisation would be great.

2) a music player, which could run in the back, while

3.) watching an automatic slide-show with the picture-viewer

would also be great....

the news function for this firmeware will be what GPH has working on ;) like playlist support, ID3 Tag support, parametrique equalizer, improvement in the video player and in the ebook reader

It'll probably break my MMU hack  :(

maybe the new firmware gives fullspeed access to the high RAM without the mmu hack now??? :) (probably not)

They should make a way to make the volume control NOT dependent on the software. That is one major flaw I see in the GP2X, and is a big factor in me not wanting to get one. If they fix that, I will be in the "might" stage. But either way, the headphone jack is on the freakin' TOP of the unit. Tell me, how do you guys live with that?

Ok, ok enough. I can't take much more of this, it's doing my head in.

Direct question: JaqM, what are you trying to achieve with your posts?

You don't own a GP2X. You think it's shit. You think everyone who does own one is a mug.

Well fine, that's your opinion but you have made your point now so why keep going on and on?

That would be nice but doubtful. Guess we'll have to wait and see. I sure hope it doesn't break Squidge's MMU hack.

=) dunno why everyone is bitching tbh

I've never had a problem with the screen or joystick (just needed wearing in)

Never had videos break, experienced sound volume change on music player

headphone jack ontop, just loop cable underneath! would u prefer to hang a Ext device from the top instead? power obstructs buttons?/????? woot either u got real chubby fingers or u forget that your fingers come apart =)

I bought the unit to play mega drive games mainly, snes would be nice, and i play metal slug and spout is wicked! amazing piece of kit

oops abit off topic... owell

I can understand this complaint. It isn't very comfortable to hold the GP2X with a power cable in the side and since your hands are over it, it is very easy to accidentally disconnect the cable slightly, causing the GP2X to reset.

That wouldn't be a nice thing to break, kill them all I say !!!

Simple solution is to not upgrade then and hope future apps will still work with 2.0.

Well, yeah, but that isn't the best way to evolve :) , I'm quite sure that Wonder Squidge will think of a new MMU hack if the need arises

/ crosses fingers

Grepping /proc/ksym should be enough to keep the mmu hack working as long as any new kernels support modules...

Of course, then you could possibly have progs that only work on certain kernel versions, but I'm sure we can work something out if it comes to that :)

Here's some info:

Default skin colors changed a bit. They are much more readable now.

CPU Clock in GP2X menu changed to 200 Mhz to avoid blinking after boot.

Bookmarks in e-book reader increased to 25

120FPS Playback in MPlayer ;)
Some audio synchronization problems solved.
Some bugs fixed about navigation.

So far thats all. More to come soon. I have reported many issues about MPlayer. I hope they care about it.

Have a nice day!

ok cool. I didn't really expect much as I'm fairly happy with 2.0. But hey *shrugs*
