Question About Lcd Screen...

Hi, I recently got a GP2X Mk2 and I just tried to display some anime wallpapers on it. I immediately noticed that the contrast was cranked majorly high, to the point where, if there were light colors, it would all just blend into white. Also, when I use the Aurora theme for the launcher, I can see banding on the upper left hand corner. Is this normal, or is my screen funky? By the way, the 3 wallpapers I've tried are:

http://www.animewallpapers.com/wallpapers/...ull_17_1024.asp
http://www.animewallpapers.com/wallpapers/...ull_26_1024.asp

I use these wallpapers because they're a good way of seeing how good or bad the contrast is for a LCD display, at least where light colors are concerned.

Get the latest CPU_Speed tweaker app thingy ... it has gamma control (not a real contrast adjustment, but it works nicely for me)

I tried it. 1.6 makes the banding on the Aurora menu go away but the wallpapers are way too bright. 0.6 makes the wallpapers look normal contrast-wise, but it's too dark.

I was just wondering if this is regular behavior for a GP2X. It doesn't bother me much (except in Ecco the Dolphin, where the water looks radioactive blue) but I wanted to know if it's the same for everyone else.

The brightness/contrast seems to vary;

I have a 1st edition, and the screen sucks ass; it's dark and no amount of tweaking can get rid of a dark, ghosting on the left sid of the screen.

I also have a later model, as does my wife ... both these newer units are very bright, so we use the LCD tweaker (you are using the autorun script to set the contrast, I'm assuming) with gamma set to 0.6 and it looks just right.

ive got a mk2 and the screen is very bright, at least on the menu..when playing games it seems fine.. must be something to do with the settings theyre using... they have 3(or more?) screens to cover in the firmware.. i hope they default it to the mk2 since thats the newer one..

What I can't figure out it who chose the colour schemes of white on yellow, etc.
That's probably why you need the contrast set so high..
Must get on and download a new theme or whatever...

It most certainly does! Looking forward to trying it with my Mk1 :)

The Backlight is now using a different circuit and putting out WAY to much light.

That is what it looks like to me at least, and I have owned the FE the MK1 and now this MK2.

I haven't yet looked into making the backlight dimmer with a mod of some sort (it is possible the "pencil trick" would work to set the LEDs voltage regulator down a notch or two, if there is a surface mount resistor pair controlling it.)

Until such a time just do what you have to and get it as good as you can. I find that playing outdoors makes me not notice :).

Just a quick thought, Lik Sang sells a Gameboy Advance Afterburner and SP light dimmer that just ties to three buttons and uses them to set the brightness of the BackLight.

I would probably put three new buttons somewhere (or hide the "enable" button and use the shoulder buttons) because of the emulator's with funky control schemes.

I will be back with a link, or you can hunt it down in the gameboy section.

Seems like the thing has already been desgned, hey a backlight is a backlight (or frontlight ;)), and we could use it on a GP2X just as well.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just looked again and it is a sold out item. http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=...ts_id=2144&
