I remember a discussion about this quote on gp2x.com specifications page:

Display:

* 3.5" TFT LCD (Hardware : 16.7 Million Colors / Software: 260,000 Colors)

By looking a screenshot made with fbgrab, it seems it's true, the image has less colors than the original, and it's a software thing:

Why would have GPH reduced the screen colors by software? wouldn't be better 24/32bit?

Or did I missed something?

EDIT: I think 260,000 colors is 18bits. A bit weird :huh:
 
yeah, Craigix told me that the graphics thingy GPH use to render stuff is shit, basically. (sorry to revive an old topic i just came across the same problem/thing today...)
 
I would think that they did it to reduce the amount of data throughput required for blitting, so blits would be faster (a worthy cause but a bad solution).
