The video I'm trying to encode wouldnt do at first as it had bad frames in it i think, so used the option "scan video stream for errors" under the video submenu. After that tho, when its finished scanning, i can encode the video fine, but the sound doesnt encode at all, it just leaves it out. is there anyway that i can get the sound to encode after iv scanned for errors or will i need to rip the sound file and reintergrate it after the video stream has been encoded? Any help would be appreciated.

You could try this - Open the file in virtual dub and then "File" "Save WAV" to save the sound file. When you've fixed the video stream then encode using "Audio" "Wav Audio" to reintegrate your sound file
