I must admit that the Commodore 64 was way before my time and that I know nothing about it. Stating that, Frodo is one of the best emulators on GP32, so I would like to know what the best games on C64 are. If you wanna do top 10 or top 100 it will all be great.

Too bored for my own good.

Nice list, lotta good games int here :)

couple i would add, ALL the Dizzy games and Laser Squad :D

That's a pretty good list, but a lot of those are american games. I'd add a few more to it tho...

Batman (both the movie and the caped crusader)
BMX Simulator
Bombuzal
Bounder
Bounty Bob Strikes Back!
Ghouls 'n' Ghosts
IK+
International Karate
Jack The Nipper (this uses the 1, 2 and Enter keys, so you may wanna pass on it)
Law of the West
Mad Nurse
Monty On The Run
Pacmania
Powerdrift
Potty Pigeon
Raging Beast/Ole!
Re-Bounder
Spy vs. Spy 1-3 (these are hard to find I think)
Time Machine
Thing On A Spring
Tusker
Wizball

My friend started messing around with my GP32 and got addicted to Back To The Future on C64. Which is odd, because it's incredibly bad. The absolute worst game you could put on is Alice In Videoland - it's quite possibly the worst commercial game ever, so have a look at it if you want to shock people!

Just keep in mind the C64 had a very active arcade conversion market...mostly conversions of games by Konami, Taito, Atari, Namco and the like, but occasionally smaller companies like Toaplan. It also had infamously bad Movie Licenced games (eg Cobra).

Most of the games on my list are American because I'm an American! :) Great to see someone across the ocean adding to the list, I'll have to check some of those out as well. God, I totally forgot about Law of the West, I'll have to check that one out as well. I will have to try the Dizzy games out, they sound familiar but I can't place them for sure.

I cannot believe that you missed out on these:

Stunt Car Racer
Yiearkungfu
Nebulus
Bionic Commando
Budokan
Rtype
Green Beret
Infiltrator (all of em)
Super Cars
HotRod

These were responsible for quite a few homeworks never completed
;)

Guess there are way too many games out there for the c64 to remember em all. :D

there are far to many to list as looking at other post's has shown, but these few took up quite a few hours

Trains
Boulderdash
Kennedy Aproach
Rainbow Walker (not shure if this was on C64 or just Atari)
Flip & Flop
Nebulus
Miner 20439'er (not shure if this was on C64 or just Atari)

Alleykat
Ancipital
Antiriad
Attack of the Mutant Camels
Ball Blazer
Battle Valley
Bionic Commando (looked fairly horrible but played fantastically)
Bounces
Bounder
Crazy Comets
Eidolon
Exolon
Intensity
Gribbly's Day Out
Laser Zone
Last Ninja series (graphical & musical tour-de-forces)
Led Storm
Magnetron
Matrix
Mega Apocalypse
Morpheus
Revenge of the Mutant Camels
Salamander
Sheep in Space
Stormlord
Stormlord II - Deliverence
Zenji
Zolyx

... probably several missing there, especially as I pressed some key or another while editing my original list and it wiped everything I'd typed

Oh, and the number of games released for the C64? Take a look here:

www.gamebase64.com

At last count they were talking about 1,500 unique games, and considering there's usually several versions of each game out there (different cracker's intros, formats), you're looking at a hell of a lot of games. I downloaded the Tosec C64 archives, and between all the different versions of the games, they take up more than 1GB on my hard drive (and that's ARCHIVED!)

Here is the link to the Arnold C64 Collection:

ftp://arnold.c64.org/pub/games/

They have around 2,000+ games online, accept anonymous FTP, and best of all, have a very nice text based index to find the games you're looking for.

Attack of the mutant camels! id forgotten about that! I LOVE THAT GAME! I am so desperate to play it now........

I put some 15 games into the C64 folder and some of the roms don't appear on the list in Frodo. How do i get them all to appear?

Flip & Flop

You must be an atari 800 fan - and I do remember Flip & flop that isometric kangaroo game --!

Rainbow walker is also available on the c64 and so is miner 2049er(but the atari 800 versions are better generally)

-but don't forget

Masters of the lamp
Alternate Reality city\dungeon(doesn't work under frodo - atari version better)
Feud(The c64 version is much better)
Mule(Identical)
Action Biker(Identical)

hmm, this is a tough one:

Airbourne ranger
Wizball
Hawkeye
Armalyte
Defender of the crown
Alien syndrome
Paradroid
The last ninja
Myth
Indiana jones and the fate of atlantis
