I tried loading a new background on my GP32 but the colours went all screwy... what should i do to fix this?

a. Download the GP32.act file . You must be able to find it on one of the GP32 fanwebsites (I could not find a link for it - Any one here ? )
b. Open your image in Photoshop
c. Select Menu image->mode->indexed color, click ok
d. select menu image->mode->color table
e. click load and browse to the gp32.act that you have downloaded
f. save and upload to gp32

I am not exactly sure, how it is done in other image editors

Perhaps there could be a section on this site for images that are already correct size and palette that people could download? :)

If someone could change this image to use the correct palette and then save it as a .gif I'd be much obliged though...

Could you email it back to daz@dazhome.co.uk

Thanks

The only problem with my Wind-Ups BG is it sets the Icons' default template to it's own color template, making the icons different colors than original

I've changed your picture for you... you can get it here:

http://homepages.shu.ac.uk/~kmwragg/Gp32/holly.gif

also if you've got Paint Shop Pro then you can simply load this palette up:

http://homepages.shu.ac.uk/~kmwragg/Gp32/GP32.pal

and your best bet is selecting "error diffusion" as it gives a LOT better results than nearest colour :D

if you dont use PSP, or photoshop and still need help, tell me what paint program you use and i'll try and guide you into how you can edit your pictures correctly :)

Yes! I had this problem with my own icons, was driving me mad, after creating 'perfect icons' changing the background would mess them up. Any ways to prevent this from happening?

To prevent it from happening then make sure that the palettes of your background and icons match? I'm not sure which takes priority, I think its the background from what it seems... so make sure your icons have the same palette as your background...

above is the standard palette used in wind-up's images, which is the standard 8 bit palette for the GP32... :)

There are 1000s of ready made wind-ups backgrounds and icons available at GP32 World. You have to be a member to download them

Using PhotoImpact, Ulead GifAnimator and Corel Painter. I can't load the PSP GP32.pal but I can load Windows Palette Files.

Basicly I created my own palette using the colours from Wind-ups icons created by others (not the best way, but I needed a start). This worked out fine until I changed backgrounds, guess my palette does speak GP32 but with a slight accent :D

PSP 4.12 is shareware*well, shareware version that is, ealuation period* and can do the job, just a hard time finding it XD *i have had it for a while*

pallet doesn't work well with basically one type of color, like a red oriented 16mil color BG XD
