Hi.
Does anyone know if there is any hardware that allows you to output from your computer?

I'm thinking on the lines of a radio output card that sends a weak signal to a jfn kinda thing which strengthens the signal and broadcasts is over a larger area.

Wow thats amazing I wonder how much of a signal you could get out of that. Whatever it is I'm sire you could boost it a bit and really have alot of fun with it.

Is this legal? I mean u send u r mp3 files on the frequenze of other radio stations.
I think ur neighbours could get a little bit angry if they want to listen to their favorite musik on radio and they just hear YOUR musik!

But it looks very interesting! ;)

The legality would depend on the country of use's laws on radio emissions. Probably best to buy one from your country of residence, as you could be breaking the law otherwise.

Cool!

Mmmmmmmmh.......my own radio station for £100.....imagine the possibilities ;)

but before i go and buy myself one what sort of range does this think have (in miles) and also is this legal to broadcast without any documentation?

answers would be appreciated

Andy

Well, depends on where you are.
In Germany, e.g., you need a license to open a radio station.
And don't forget you have to PAY to broadcast music! (GEMA, e.g)

They wont have a range of more than about 50 metres probably! Virtually all countries have heavy restrictions on the use of RF. For example, there are restrictions of somthing like 200Mw at 2.4Ghz for use in Wireless networking, so it doesn't interfere with outher equipment. This gives you a range of about 200m on a good day...

These things are usually just designed for distributing audio throughout your house as far as I know, though I may be wrong... the site was down when I tried to look...

Well, if you plan to broadcast outside the range of your own home, then you would have to definately register and stuff. I mean, the IEEE or FCC or whoever is involved with this in the US probably could care less if you're using for your own personal use within the confines of your home. I used to make toy radios when I was younger with electronics kits.

That's amazing, I want one now. I'm in the usa and all that but I don't care. Imagine how fun it'd be to broadcast a pirate radio station, haha, and in a car on the run or whatever. That's just so awesome, i'm seriously 100% set on buying one of these!

thanks thanks and thanks.

Now anyone know how non-profit radio does their contracts with artists?

IE- College Radio plays independent rock and does no commercials.

Would I have to strike up a contract with these various independent rock labels to be able to play and not get sued....

i see it as the grown man's legos. Instead, youre trying to say something on the lines of : Clearchannel Corp. = crappy ass corporation with influence and lack of musical taste.

And also : We need some real rock out there dammit.

And also : It sounded cool, and apperantly other people had the same idea and made that stuff. :)

Sorry to bring up an old(er) topic, but this is a really cool idea! you could have an old PC, with this card in it, in the trunk of your car and broadcast a pirate radio station, like Mofokubik said. awsome...

I've made something like that b4... Just looked in a book, and stuck all the electronic pieces together (I ripped the pieces out of old phones/tape playesr/etc) then I could broadcast AM radio for 10feet :)

And about the pirate radio station... Just get a laptop, some external battries (enough for 24 hours) and the card. Bury it somewhere with a small hole + fan to ventilate the laptop + looooooong uninsulated wire wrapped around the antenna that is run around a circle with a radius of 20feet, then connected to a huge metal thingy (sign pole for example) so the signals can get far :) Heheheheheh that would be funny :p
