GP2600 beta released!

it needs alittle work but it seems to be off to a great start. The speed is good for the most part almost to fast on some games. As well some of the games seem to be missing some graphics which make it hard to play but it shows alot of promis so far. And this is only after about a week of work? If so thats pretty nice and if things continue at that rate by the next release this thing could be awesome. Still very nice so far.

Cool!

Asteroids, Berzerk and Battlezone all work. There are a couple of minor graphic glitches (the radar in Battlezone), but the sound is perfect.

:D WOW ! Finally !!! This rules !!! B)
Most of the games I tested have some glitches though... Pitfall (one of my favourite 2600 games) is at least running almost perfect ! Hopefully this cool emu gets updated fast ! Thanks to the author for this great emu !

Ah, excellent ^_^

I think the only thing that would enhance the GP32's standing inthe retro community would be to port MESS with all it's 8bit computer drivers intact ^_^

(Here's hoping, esp. since such progress is being made witht he 8bit drivers in GPMAME)

Here's the thing, though:

Does anyone have a 'Best Of' list anywhere for the 2600? I only had a passing familiarity with the machine the first time around - what can I say? The VCS wasn't popular in the north of england at the start of the 80s. I do have a 'complete' collection of the games, but there's so much crap on it it's hard to find the gems. Looking at a lot of what was released it's not hard to see what caused the videogame market collapse in the US (that's not picking on it, just stating facts).

So, please, 2600 owners: point me towards the best games for the system (and guide me from offensive crap like Custer's Revenge)

For those seeking ROMs, check out AtariAge.com ... from this page you can download pretty much every Atari 2600 known to man. http://www.atariage.com/system_items.html?...&ItemTypeID=ROM (Don't worry ... "every Atari 2600 game known to man" comes out to be around three meg.)

As far as good games ... boy, I think a lot about the Atari 2600 is "you had to be there." I mean, anyone who has played Donkey Kong on MAME is NOT going to prefer the 2600 version (flaming barrels with only 2 different sprites, and only two levels).

Off the top of my head ... Asteroids, Slot Racers, Superman, Video Pinball, The Empire Strikes Back, River Raid, Pitfall, Freeway, Frogger, Missile Command, Keystone Kapers, Laser Blast, Stampede, Tennis, Demon Attack, Moon Patrol, and the classic Yars Revenge were some of my favorites.

You are right about one thing, as the market exploded the games went to hell. Try playing Kool-Aid Man and your head will explode in minutes.

Flack

Some of them may be awful but I'm still gonna test them!

'b'
Bank Heist
Barnstorming (do games get any stranger than this?)
Basketball (won't seem to work in 1-player mode)
Basic Math (yay!)
Battlezone (mostly)
Beam Rider
Beserk
Bogey Blaster
Boxing
Bugs Bunny

When I was a young lad I managed to loop the score on Ms PacMan on the 2600... I was there for hours!

Can't remember how big the promised pack was but I've got 533 roms, renamed into 8.3 and put into alphabetical directories to help loading times. If anyone wants to PM me I'll happily e-mail it. It compresses to just over 2MB and expands to just over 3.

Hope this helps and isn't against board policy.

Man, there are a lot of roms for this thing. I just know everyone's just playing Pitfall anyway...
But here's working c and ds.

'c'
Cakewalk
Canyon Bomber
Carnival
Cat Trax
Chuck Norris Superkicks
Coconuts
Combat
Concentration

'd'
Dark Cavern
Deadly Duck
Demon Attack
Dice Puzzle
Dishaster
Donkey Kong Jnr.
Dark Mage (bit dodgy)
Dodge 'Em
Dolphin
Donald Duck's Speedboat (though I don't get it!)
Dragster
Dragonfire
Dukes of Hazzard version 2 (again, eh?)

Actually newt, what will suck is when you're at the Qs or so... and the next beta comes out, where more games now work! But seriously, I appreciate your work at least!

Thanks for being so consistent! Perhaps we could have an Atari emu forum, and then sticky your game list to the top!

- Rico :p
