Last Year the original GTA was released for everyone to download. Does this mean that they have released the source code as well?

a gta sourcecode would be really cool... why dont the release it, when the have released the game as freeware. then they could aso release the source, i dont think that they still make money with it.. and even then, they could choose a special license.

They aren't gonna release the code coz its getting ported for pocket PCs and their gonna sell it for £20 sposidly. But if they doing this they aint gonna release it.

I'm not good at programming, is there no way of sourcing the code by hacking into the game engine

PS Im sure if the HL2 source was leaked theres gotta be a leaked GTA source sumwhere

hmm i dont think so...
but even if we find it, its illegal and its even harder then to find a coder who would do this.

You can reverse engine some parts of it into assembler (which isn't very useful) but no way will you be able to get the source code into c for a whole game. Your anecdotic proofs are of no use. Because one rabbit is white all rabbits have to be white? No, very few sources are leaked and even if they are leaked they cannot really be used by anyone, unless you want to create something illegal and be sued by the game company.

If you want to play GTA, play the GBC version, it is perfectly playable. Or wait (or even better, create one yourself) for a decent GBA emulator to arise to play Payback.

Even if a GBA emulator did arise I think that payback would be one of the last games that would work on it, its quite advanced. Better idea just download it and play it on the PC, or even better play GTA VC online, wahooooo

I would much rather have him lend the source to a coder that will port over the PC version (its going to be the most advanced version) that have to emulate it not full screen without sound! Plus, that would be illegal and I'm sure the maker wouldnt be very happy with that. The Mac version was made that way (source being lent) so I'm sure if someone asked James Daniels nicely if they can port Payback to GP32 for and sell it on JoyGP for around 15USD and make a royalty off it then he would be pleased to let them!

GTA clone = payback, but apparantly won't be released for GP32, only GBA, and a few more.
Most likely wont be on GP32 due to stuff, Enslaved said he needed money and it will take more time for a gp32 make. He wants to do it, but he also wants it to be worth while... Everyone has a GBA, average age is 20 for GBA ownership. Payback will do good in that market, but for a korean handheld that almost noone has heard of? *well, to noone meaning a large %, but a shitload of people know of it :D*
