gameboy advance

I'm 17. My gaming knowledge barely stretches past Genesis, I have played maybe 2 games on Master System. I am not really interested in emulators for the ST, 2600, or Vectrex because I've never heard of them (now I've tried both, in the advent of the GP32).

I still respect the wishes of people like you. When you say, "for me it's nowhere near the top priorities" it -really- is for you, other people would much prefer newer consoles/devices emulated instead. Therefore, I and many others would love GBA emulation...

Just a thought. Don't slag off newer consoles because they're not old ...

10-4... a GBA emu would only be nice for 'show off' value but I'd doubt I'd play anything with it.

It wasn't that long ago that i worked in a place where there were piles of GBCs and GBAs, even a nice collection of games and loads of time to loaf around. I think i played tony hawk once...hmm maybe rayman

I'm not much of a hand held games sorta person... I stumbled on the GP browsing the web for a new mp3 player, but bought it almost straight after reading it had a handfull of classic emus. Since then, I don't think a day gone by without me revisiting some of the old 8-bit favs for an hour or six.

My point is the userbase for the GP32 is deverse.. from people who wouldn't ordinarily own a handheld to those who have one of each make and model.

BTW, I still haven't tried playing mp3's on the thing yet... ...it's over a month old.

I really dont care if there is a gba emu for gp32 or not. only 2 games I really like on gba anyway, thats why I gave my gba away
What I want on my gp32 is:
NES
SNES
GENESIS
2600
and thats about it.

I don't think most of the posters in this topic are slagging GBA just because its newer. The point many were making is that as the GBA is not only newer, but it and its games are still commercially available pretty much everywhere (only a small number of games are actually impossible to get). Because of this, most people buying a GP32 to emulate the GBA would be doing so as a method of pirating games (after all, if you're going to legally purchase the games anyway, it will run better on an actual GBA). The point isn't "oh gosh no, that's illegal" nor is it "Bah, sucky games anyway"... its that the community that we all enjoy right now would likely be ruined by an influx of people clamoring for GBA roms and help running them.

That said, yes, there are legal ways to use the roms, and yes, some people would benefit (those who currently carry two handhelds around to have ALL their favorite games!). Its an interesting challenge and I'm sure someday we'll have a GBA emulator that runs okay (maybe not great). If its good enough we'll see an influx of new users and the debate about this will be pointless :).

Waaah! Hold your horses :D

I wouldn't slag off newer consoles! There are some damn good games about! I only said that it's nowhere near the top priority for me!

Others have, or course, got different priorities - but me, being an old fogey (25 years young) would prefer to relive the days of old :D . That's the great thing about the GP32 - with all the emus about, you've got a choice to use one, two or all of them! It's one of thise things that's bringing newer and older gamers together.

It was great - I took my GP32 into a game shop ('Game' to be precise!), just to find a case for it. In about 5 mins, I had a load of people crowding round me trying to get a look at the GP32! I had everyone from younger people to older gamers. It was cool! It's great that such a range of people can enjoy it!

Cheers

Wish it was like that for me. All my "firends" (thats right I have had only one real friend that wasn't on the I net and I only knew him for a year then I moved :( ) here think it is a dumb overpriced thing (exactly the opposite of what I think ;) ) They say that I should have used my money on better things (em bettter??? to them better means action figures/plastic airplane toys that cost ~$10 I don't get the logic in this  ) Can someone Please explain the thoughs that they are having??

People infuriatingly call it a 'Gameboy thing' ... among geek circles, however, it has gained much respect for it's open source nature and general coolness.

Yeah Rico - I get that problem too....

People say "What is it..."

I say "A GP32..."

They say "What - the new gameboy?.."

Hmmmm - there are a breed of people who find these sort of things cool. The computer engineer I showed it to the other day almost CRIED when he saw some of the old games I was running on it. He's about the same age as me and really appreciated seeing some of the old games running so well on something so small!

I've got a real enthusiasm for the GP32 that I haven't had for anything for ages! It's so nice to actually care what the next cool release on something is gonna be, especially when you get the chance to interact with those doing the creation...

Either people understand or they don't.

We all do... but there's loads that you'll never convince. There are loads of things like that, but who cares? as long as we have it and the community that goes with it (and WHAT a community :D) then I for one am a happy chappie....

Cheers

<_< I don't understand why so many people want a gba emulator. The Gameboy series has always had nothing but second rate software (even the 1st party stuff) due to the lack of real competition. The gba is no exception. There are very few games on it that don't completely suck . Those few decent games are all just ports of NES and Super-NES games anyway. The Gp32 has so many good emu's on it already. Just wait for the SNES emulator to get faster. I allways actually the action of my Genesis (megadrive for most of ya'll) better.

Same problem when PCSXbox(playstation emulator) was released for the Xbox liek last week haha. Everyone asking questions, I would liek to see a GBA emulator althought I'll still get a gp32 without one.

hi
i dont kno whether i should hav got my gbasp or wish i had bought a gp32
on one hand
u got gbasp
flash card
uploads tons of games
no snes
big let down

and
u got gp32
plays snes, nes, spetrum etc
but no gba
some of the games for gba are alright
like splinter cell, or tony hawks 4(class)

im a newbie here
i saw this talk abt a gp64?
wats tht abt?
nxt gp?

I really couldn't care less about the GBA emulator until I get some quality NES, SNES, Genesis, and GameBoy Color emulators. The console emulation on the GP32 isn't that good right now (with the exception of GPEngine) and I'd much rather have those emulators before even talking about a GBA emulator.

I did much the same thing in Gamestation; I might see what the resction is in Game though.

Personally, GBA emu I'd like, but more to be able to prove to the idiots who say things like "Is it a 32 bit system? Then why on earth do you want to play 16bit games from SNES on it - they're old - go buy a GBA" (and yes, some misguided idiot said that... despite the output quality being blatantly nicer than GBA :) ). I might play about... say 3 games on it? Tops... On the basis that the SNES vers would probably be emulated better anyway (snes being a lot slower and all). But I would use it to wave in the face of those who believe the GBA is superior because it's got better "32" bit (i.e. 16 bit conversions) games.

I must admit I was intersted in a GBA emu first, until I saw all the other
great stuff you could get for the GP32 - if you have a full speed SNES emu
I cant see any need for a GBA emu anyway, if you can run mario Kart and
SMW on it.

Anyway there a many more brilliant older games to emu - port that were about
wile Nintendo were still making Game and Watches.
