Emulating Sega Cd Or 32x?

It seems like it might work, Mega CD is just like the mega drive to me, so does 32x. The only problem is putting those Sega CD games on you're SMC

Since the GP32 plays MP3s, why can't it play games using the MP3 files?
Same graphics as Mega Drive *I think*
If the game supports video files, we can emulate that into a emulator.

Remember this is just a thought, please don't flame, you'll make me really sad :(

And i'm talking about a Emulator for the GP32.

There isn't even a fully working fullspeed Genesis emulator out there, so how do you expect fullspeed Genesis emulation WHILE playing MP3? This is just too much work for the CPU.

right well dont quote me on this but mega cd would have to use iso's and they are pretty darn big lad.

as for the 32x - why bother its shit, only good game that came out for it was doom and we have that allready.

Yes there is, but not released yet, a mega drive emulator I mean. Don't you read the news?

Well, there are some isos that are small (around 30mb - 45mb), depends if you want the music.

I do, but obviously you don't.
They ain't any fullspeed emulator yet that's working. It's nowhere near completion, It just plays a few games and a few intros and is _very_ unstable ATM. It will take some more time to see something working nicely.

Hey! You're about to start a fight with me. Anyway, 32x can be emulated, but since there's a low amount of games out there I don't think anyone wants to bother trying.

Wait, which mega drive emulator? fgen? Because the one already out doesn't load that well so maybe that's the one you're talking about.

lol the 32x
i remember him
he was all like look at me!
i play NBA jam Tourny and StarWars Rouge Squadron!
and other games that you dont really want to play! BUY ME! BUY ME!
and then back in the real world i was thinkin nah that would be a waste of money
than my dad bought one.... i did love that knuckles chaotics game (or whatever it was) but that was pretty much the highlight of owning one
and then i lost the cords so i couldnt use it but didnt really care because i got a PS1
those where tha days :)

do we need a 32x emu? no... but if they make one i would want to try it and then decide not to
so my dad would download it...
wait a tic...

No, I was talking about the recent fgen, which is in the news for a few days now. It's nowhere near completion, and according to rlyeh it's very unstable.

lol, I remember my mate had the entire mega drive set up (Mega drive, 32x, and cd drive thingy) and about 4 games for the lot.

If an emu were to crop up (I'm not saying I think its possible just saying if) I'd give it a go. The more the merrier.

Anyway, 32x can be emulated, but since there's a low amount of games out there I don't think anyone wants to bother trying

As long as someone with the skill is interested in the system theres always a chance that they'll give it a go.

Although I'm still holding out for an Amiga emulator ;)

Maybe if some aspiring emu author decides to take on a challenge. He can try to get a fair speed Sega CD emu that runs the few small games that would fit on a SMC. but... just something to point out, if no fullspeed genesis emus are opensource they'll need to code one of those themselves because the Sega CD/Mega CD needs a genesis running under it.

*looks at rlyeh lol

Nah, he is still emulating Mega Drive, but we could get some new people in here...

I notice that when people don't know english very well, they tend to get one thing mixed up the most... the difference between "he" and "it".. I kind of remember ilarri doing that a couple of times when talking about the GP32, referring to it as a "he" rather than an "it". And now there's a little on this topic

That was a little pointless, but oh well  :p

Genesis+Sega CD has twice much as memory as Genesis only so it could be an issue. And don't even think about 32x and its SH2 processor which is the same as in a Saturn (Saturn has two of it).
And about playing CD dump+mp3 games: it is hard enough a emulate such a complicated system as a genesis and it would need a mp3 decoder which would take up to 50 % of the GP32 power, plus the synchronisation system.

From the gens manual:

Keep in mind that 32X emulation needs a very powerful machine , here's a
description of "what's emulated" when 32X runs :
- 2 SH2 RISC CPU running at 23 Mhz
- 32X VDP
- 32X PWM sound chip
- 32X stuffs as FIFO/DMA ...
- 1 M68000 running at 7.67 Mhz
- 1 Z80 running at 3.58 Mhz
- Genesis VDP
- YM2612 sound chip
- PSG sound chip
- ...

Emulating the Mega CD would be pointless, let me tell you why.

1) The graphics are exactly the same as the mega drive.

2) The only major difference is CD quality sound

3) There were only few decent arcade type games such as final fight that were worth playing.

Phew, I now there was quite a bunch of things to emulate but I didn't even imaginated all of these.

Someone say I am crazy when I use "he" talking about my cat...

Oh, well, and about 32x emulation... forget it! It is not fullspeed on my old Athlon 500. It could be emulated, but playing would be a pain in the ass.
