Basically, I followed the instructions in the GBAX sheet that came with my gp32, which said that the PC should recognize the GP32 once I plug it in the extension slot and turn it on, and ask for the drivers. It doesn't recognize it, though; I even looked at the FAQ on GP32emu and tried going to control panel to see if it recognizes it there; it doesn't.

When I click on "pc link" on the gp32, it just says "waiting" indefinately.

I noticed the USB link is a little wobbly on the gp32 side, and it doesn't go in all the way; is it supposed to be like this?

:(

Somebody please help!

I feel your pain... I went through the same thing and searched forums for 8 hours... (sob) Ok here it is. (Everything i'm talking about is for window xp) Go to control panel, click printers and other hardware. On the left, find add hardware and click on it. From what i remember, there should be an icon with a question mark that says unidentified usb drive or something... When it says choose or select software or program to install, browse for the usb driver you downloaded and choose it. Then it will be installed. Hope this wasn't confusing... Good luck. ;)

If you try using the pc link from the official gp32 OS and it says 'WAITING..' when you press start then your usb lead SHOULD BE fine.If it says 'USB CONNECTION ERROR' then i think its your lead

It's still not working! :(

Here, I'll explain what I tried (quotes are from the FAQ on GP32emu.com):

Connect your Link Cable to the PC and GP32 and you should get a found new device message. When prompted for the location of your .INF file choose the location of the drivers and follow the instructions.
i did this... the computer did not respond.

If you do not get a found new device message, look in Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager. Then scroll down to USB Controllers. There should be an unidentified device there. Click on that and install the drivers from there.
This seems to be the equivalent of what Lethe suggested.
I did this, but when I opened "Universal Serial Bus controllers", there were only 4 things there:
SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

They were the same 4 things, regardless of whether or not the GP32 was connected.

Another way is to extract the files from the downloaded zipfile, there should be an .INF file. Right click on this file and choose Install, this should install the drivers onto your PC and help identidy the cable when it is connected.
I tried this too. All that would happen is the screen would flash for a split second. Nothing else seemed to happen, though.

The GP32 says "waiting", so I guess the actual cable is fine.

Does anybody know what could be wrong? :(

More information...

Control Panel:

System:

Device manager:

Universal Serial Bus controllers:

SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

I have 4 USB slots in the back of my harddrive... there is one pair near the top and one near the bottom.

When I right-click on one of the 4 things above, I get 4 options:

Disable
Uninstall
Scan for hardware changes
Properties

I tried plugging my GP32 in, turning it on, and then clicking on "Scan for hardware changes". A little box would pop up for a few seconds saying "Scanning plug and play compliant hardware". Then it dissapears.

I also tried uninstalling one of the "SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller"s. For some reason, one of the "USB Root Hub"s was automatically uninstalled along with it.
As soon as I restarted the computer, however, new hardware magically appeared and automatically installed itself, and what do you know, it was "SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller" and its friend the "USB Root Hub". This was even though my GP32 was connected and turned on at the time. My computer just doesn't recognize it!

Well, I decided to try my luck at installing the driver for it anyways. I already told you what happened when I tried to install gp32usb.inf from the GBAX cd (in the post above). Well, I found that there was a newer version for Win2k and XP at http://users.skynet.be/firefly/gp32/projec...32usb/index.htm .

I downloaded it. There were 3 files included in the zip:

gp32usb.inf
gp32usb.sys
RwBulk.exe

When I tried double-clicking on RwBulk.exe, a large black window flashed on my screen for a split second, but nothing else happened. When I tried to right-click on gp32usb.inf and install it, nothing happened at all.

So alright, I decided to try GPLink anyway (I tried with the "deluxe" long-filename version that's on the GBAX CD... strange that it's SMALLER in size than the original one by 500kb  ). When I open it, a window pops up saying
"Please connect with GP32 and set it to PC-Link mode
if ready press OK button"
I do that, and press OK. Another window pops up, saying "failed to open USB connection".

Right.

As you might have figured out by now, I have almost no idea what is wrong, so I'm posting absolutely EVERYTHING in this message in the hope that somebody will notice something that I'm doing wrong.

Please PLEASE HELP!!! :(

From my memory, the gp32 usb driver is not in the Universal Serial Bus controllers. There should be something like unknown usb driver in the device manager. And further info, try using the original usb port. My computer has two on the back and two on the front but the front ones don't work.

Try using a port thats connected to your motherboard rather than an AddOn Card or a HUB or anything similar.

The spot you should see the GP32 if the drivers are not properly installed in the device manager is a big yellow "?" that says OTHER DEVICES. (Or possibly in the Human Interface Devices catagory) If you see something in here that even remotely sounds like it would be your GP32 link, double click on it, select Drivers/Update Drivers and select the proper file.

Make sure you are using a USB port that you have verified works. Try hooking some other USB device up to it.

Your GP32 Link will not be detected unless its hooked up to both your PC and the GP32 and your GP32 must be powered on.

It doesn't seem to be working...

Thanks for all the help, guys.

I think I'll try checking if my USB drives actually work... perhaps there IS a disadvantage to buying your computer at cheap little Chinese stores. ;) <_<

Nope. They DO work (for other things).

Now I'm just scared! :(

Perhaps it's time to email craigix and see if he knows anything... or bring in a friend who knows more about computers than I do...

This person seems to have a similar problem to me...

Anyway, I tried the "upgrade drivers" option like Akuma no Houkon suggested in the other thread, but the wizard doesn't recognise the "gp32usb.inf" as a driver. Or, rather, it does recognize the file as a driver, but then after I click "next" it doesn't recognize it as being suitable to replace the one that's in existence. Sorry if I'm not explaining clearly.

Ok, the driver is now installed (I clicked "have disk" when upgrading the driver, even though I didn't have a disk, and it allowed me to pick the GP32 driver), but when I click on the properties, it says the device cannot start, even though I have my gp32_console plugged in and in PC-Link mode. I installed PC_Link on my computer, but when I try to run it, it says it cannot open the USB port.

I think I'm getting closer, but... well, does anyone know what may be wrong now?

AAAAAHH i remember it well....... for two whole weeks i couldnt get the damn usb drivers to work and everytime i thought they were installed it would come up 'unable to open usb port'. then i discovered that when you unzip the drivers you get a readme file called 'GP32USB.SYS' (i think) but i was unaware that there was another part to the usb driver download that disapears to somewhere else. its called 'GP32USB.INF' (again i think, i could have the two drivers mixed up) anyhow what i did was search your pc for it then put them BOTH on a floppy and then delete the hardware you thought you had installed as the gp32 and start again, it should install properly now. then as soon as you install freelauncher buy an smc reader/writer and use that for data transfer because even though i had installed the drivers i kept having to reinstall them when i rebooted my pc.
