One of gaming's early eras involved simulators and racing games. So which ones can you recall (arcade/console/PC) from the golden era (pre Gran Turismo)?

Loved Namco Rally-X, a top down 2D maze chase game, from the makers of Pac Man. Leaving oil slicks and smoke screens was cool, or so I thought 30 years ago, good times.
When the arcade died, so did a part of me, lol.
What racing games, arcade & console, would you say were the great games prior to Gran Turismo? Pole Position and Bump N' Jump are pretty legendary.

Well since the thread has been revived I will just mention "Secret Quest" on the Atari 2600. A 1989 game designed in response to Nintendo's Legend Of Zelda. Secret Quest is a big game and even allows you to save your game & score so you can resume later. An amazing RPG on the 2600...

Anyone remember the arcade game Crystal Castles featuring Bentley Bear from the early 1980s? Namco did maze games, and then Atari out mazed them with Crystal Castles, great arcade game and one of the best carts for the Atari 2600 IMO.
