    Pandora in the news: Crash Course Games Handhelds! :)

    I didn't like the implication that units sold == success. Or that Nintendo is the end-all-be-all of handheld consoles. Oh, and they forgot the Neo Geo Pocket line of handhelds.

    What do you want to see from Dale Studios?

    I voted "Neither" because I think you should focus your efforts on a much smaller scale game. Don't use a game engine, just learn how to program a game from scratch. Start with a 2D run-'n'-gun or something along those lines (of course, working up to it), then progress onward to the realm of...

    Origin Stories (of your alias/moniker/pseudonym)

    I really like Phantasy Star Online. Not a very exciting story, eh?

    Available technologies and versions?

    Vulkan is more like the Glide and PowerVR APIs from the mid-to-late '90s. By that, I mean it's a low-level API, yet cross-platform and cross-vendor. I really like Vulkan, but haven't been able to dedicate much time to it.

    Available technologies and versions?

    There was and wasn't a big jump between 2 and 3. It's just that the fixed-function pipeline way of doing things is not supported in OpenGL 3.1 and beyond if you create a core profile. Instead of using glBegin/glEnd to do your rendering, you submit batches of primitives via glDrawElements...

    I'm not a fan of developers creating "wacky" games with "Simulator" slapped on the end of the title, either. Mainly because it does detract from a genuine simulation games and that's not fair to those developers who are targeting a niche market as it is. The Train Simulator and Microsoft...

    MAD CATZ S.U.R.F Controller/Keyboard

    The only place I can think of would be eBay. Search for ASCII GameCube controller. ASCII being the manufacturer. The most common way I've seen people using it is to play normally, rest it on your lap to type a message, then pick it back up. I haven't had the pleasure of owning one, maybe...

    It looks incredibly uncomfortable to hold. Unlike this wonderful controller:

    My little Linux adventure...

    I first started using GNU/Linux in 2002/2003.  At the time I started with Mandrake 8.  After about a year I switched to Gentoo and have been using it ever since.  My recommendation would be to go with something like Arch Linux.  It's a harder road to travel, but I believe you will gain more from...

    Refugee Situation in Europe

    I'm curious, where is the proof for either side?  I mean in terms of refuges causing commotion and taking wanton advantage of their situation. In any case, these displaced people will need some form of living quarters.  Whether or not it's possible to accommodate so many in such a short...

    Has anyone here seen Mr Robot?

    I watched all ten episodes in a night.  Very enjoyable and accurate information, with the exception of the aforementioned IP address for which they could have used the reserved IP addresses for documentation.  Though, the one thing that really stuck out to me was when the purpose of a rootkit...

    XenForo boards

    I haven't used XenForo from an administrator's point of view, but from using it on ASSEMbler and SegaXtreme I've really liked it.

    Sega Saturn more powerful than the psx?

    Both the Saturn and PlayStation had C++ compilers (though there is a note in SEGA's Saturn SDK to not use C++ for performance reasons).  The main problem was synchronising the SH-2s in the Saturn and if you didn't use both processors you really weren't getting the benefits of the Saturn.  One...

    C++ plus SDL1.X or SLD 2.0?

    I'm not going to try and coerce you into using a text editor and makefiles, however, you still get all the error messages from the compiler at the command line. SDL 2.0 would be ideal for your situation.  For the most part, SDL is useful for windowing system, audio, and input abstraction.  For...

    C++ plus SDL1.X or SLD 2.0?

    SDL 2.0 has a number of improvements over SDL 1.x, I'd say you should use version 2.  Lazy Foo's tutorials have been mostly updated to 2.0.  Is there any reason you're using an IDE or is it just a preference?

    Any way to get started on Pyra development without an OMAP 5?

    You could develop for it by targeting Linux and the PowerVR SDK, emulating the SGX GPU.  Of course, the performance will be different, however, you can get something up and running and the transition over to Pyra hardware should be relatively simple.

    The Sega dreamcast.

    It's a great console.  Both ahead and behind of its time, technologically speaking.  With no T&L hardware, the CPU is taxed pretty heavily even though there is a vector unit with a 128-bit bus which could work on a matrix and vector or vector and vector.  Of course, it has a built-in modem...
