Frederik Pohl's Gateway - The Game

Text games, early 90s (ignore the buttony interface)... both run under DOS. Edit: I've played them in DOSBox, I doubt they took too many cycles, pretty certain they'll run w/o problems. Also, thanks for the reminder;)

    Pandora Cube

X = digital video/audio out & IR port. So I could use it as a client for my media server.

    Blog Update 2/15/09

I gather you mean A, O and U? ;) The layout in this image looks alright enough. Combined with remappable gaming controls (which Craig confirmed to some extent earlier), it's a good starting position to work out minimum-press variants for any Latin alphabets. I'm pretty certain that after the...

    Can work with. Nice;)

    Shipping Method?

Bugger, now my sig is causing trouble? Edit: I just chose this aside from Chip because it displays an admirably practical streak in devs' approach.

    Regional Keyboards

Yah, same here, it's pretty much the standard. What I'm aiming for is to have the umlauts available if needed w/o having them printed on the keys or having to swap layouts every time you want to use a different languague.

    Regional Keyboards

Nah, those were just examples. Compose+U makes an umlaut (¨), Compose+N a tilde (~), etc. So full ü would be Compose+U+U, ö would be Compose+U+O and ä Compose+U+A.

    Regional Keyboards

    Following from my last post, here's how I'd map diacriticals in international layout: umlaut: Compose+U (ü) tilde: Compose+N (ñ) acute: Compose+E (é) grave: Compose+G (à) ogonek/cedille: Compose+C (ç) ring above: Compose+A (å) circumflex: Compose+I (î) hacek/caron: Compose+V (č) strikethrough...

    Regional Keyboards

I don't think this approach would be practical for Pandora's keyboard, on visual cues front, as punctuation is exclusively or nearly exclusively on secondary button labels. We could look at OSX conventions, in this case - the diacritical is represented by the most recognizable usage of said...

    Regional Keyboards

Sony U101 was my primary machine for 2 years. I still use it when travelling rough or suchlike, no netbook I've seen ever came close in usability. One thumb for mouse and other for buttons works really, really well on a device of this size. Ctrl and Alt this close on such small keys might prove...

    Regional Keyboards

It's not primarily a gaming device for everyone. Off-the-cuff IM, email and RSS look like it's best uses for me. External USB keyboard would kind of defeat the purpose of such tiny package, might as well whip out the laptop then - at least it's in one piece. Also, while on the topic of pants -...

    Regional Keyboards

Spiffy. I think basic regional selection is QWERTY, QWERTZ and AZERTY, anyway. Mali will correct me if I'm mistaken, but I doubt Pandora's keypad would have enough room for full German layout (for example). Compose/dead key solution would enter the equation nonetheless, even if it's simulated...

    Simple Keyboard Poll

German, Turkish, Spanish - the countries which, according to ED's reasoning, are first in line for their own keymaps. My main beef with this particular setup would be illogical positioning of said umlauts, anyway, which wouldn't happen with judicial use of Compose. There's no 'current proposed...

    Simple Keyboard Poll

Me neither. But then again, I've been unperturbed with any delays we've had for the simple reason that I fully support the devs' wanting to get things perfect the first time. I'd hate to see them drop that ball so close to Day Happy.

    Simple Keyboard Poll

No detailed questions, just a quick one to gauge the general level of pissedoffedness. Might very well be that there's just a few making fuss, while everyone else ain't bothered. In which case, I, for one, welcome our äñçü overlords.

An Open Letter To The Openpandora Team

If Pandora takes off like we hope it will, it's a certainty that someone will deliver PS replacement nubs sooner or later. Keyboard is a somewhat tougher item to fix if ackbasswards, though. Thumbboard isn't a classic keyboard many of us touch-type on, randomly remapping keys w/ no visual clues...

Poll: Do You Like Keybord Font.

ED, what's the Logo key function outside of emulators? My experience with console gaming is a few generations behind - appropriately for Pandora - and I can't remember a moment when text entry, umlauts or not, would've been critical when gaming. So let's just hijack the Logo (Menu) key for...
