yeh I had that. Just because I like Paris Hilton some schmuck puts some crappy dialer on my computer.

Solution: Hack IE out of XP anyway you can and use Firefox/Mozilla. Since it has improved security features from the word go.

A stop gap measure I used until I did a full reformat was to open the 1on1.exe in notepad and save over it (type something pointless as well). The next time it goes to launch the file it'll crash rather than dumping you off the Internet.

Also searching the registry [regedit at Run prompt] for the key "1on1.exe" should give some results

I would imagine the new dat files for the leading ad removal progs should now have this on their list, although its relatively recent (April, I think)

i did the notebook thing ages ago

I have firefox now

but i'm not sure if its 1on1, basically everytime im on the internet (broadband) I get D/C'd after 3 or 4 minutes

its not a problem with the connection although I am typing this and realising it may be my USB hub

Do you have a program you often use that could be putting it there? Trying running those programs and doing the stuff said here, then not run every suspicous program about 15 minutes apart, and see if it's coming up.

Possibily a stupid idea, but worth a try.

Mark, I agree with others on this thread that it's probably IE spyware. I accept that Ad-Aware et al. don't remove everything. BHO Cop would be a good choice, but it seems to be off the web nowadays.

1on1 is fairly simple. It copies itself to the Windows directory and adds itself to the start menu and registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. It also modifies IE's homepage.

If you are still getting problems, there are only a few possiblities:

1. You ran Internet Explorer. The homepage it sets might contain some ActiveX trickery to redownload 1on1 the same way you got it last time.

2. You failed to delete it in the registry. With the registry hook it will continue to run. You said you deleted it, but it's a possibility.

3. You have a new variant of the 1on1 dialer. In which case you should invest in an up-to-date virus checker with new definitions.

4. 1on1 isn't causing any problems, it's your hub. Which is backed up by you saying the porn pics aren't showing up. Virus scan to make sure.

You do realise virus checkers get rid of spyware as well nowadays? Most remove them automatically. You might want to try HouseCall:

I dont recommend Norton...subscription? come on! once you pay once you think that'd be enough...

I recommend AVG too...I got it initially to save me reformatting...cleared something stupid like 400 viruses...haven now been virus free for like 6 months...as far as i know anyway...

Having been hit by some SpyWare recently I did some research, and NOT Porn related, oddly enough..

Now I use Spybot Search & Destroy www.spybot.info to detect and remove Spyware and AVG - www.grisoft.com for Anti-Virus..

I tried Adaware, Pest Control, etc... and SpyBot found and removed more stuff than all of them put together.

I'd also recommend CWShredder (only useful if you've been hit by CoolWeb), and HiJackThis - which is a general purpose malware detection/removal tool (it scans registry for dodgy entries)....

(mind you if I had a PC with only that stuff on it I'd be V. tempted to format and start again!)

Good luck
